its not that Vista its self is slow its just that the O/S its self takes up so much space on your hard drive that it will seem to be lagging. Now if you were to go and buy a brand spacnking new computer with Vista Pre Installed I cant tell you if it would still seem sluggish, I only upgraded from XP, and went back within 1 week because of the number of programs that were not compatible with vista as well as the lag that drove me NUTS! Maybe in the future when more programs become Vista Friendly I may switch back but not yet! Vista has lots of GREAT features and lots of not so great ones too. I would say if you buy a new computer with Vista Pre Installed then you might not have the same lag as all of those who upgraded from XP.

The reason I got Vista is because XP is being phased out... I didn't want to be behind the power curve AGAIN!! Programs and software are being updated... hope they don't take too long cuz I miss my printshops!!

I have windows Vista on my new computer and I love the programming not as susceptable to virus as XP. But it does seem slower than the Xp computers we have. Even though my new computer and my husbands are very close in cpu and memory his XP seems faster than my Vista.Once you learn the Ins and Outs on Vista I think you would love it.

See friend...you have different tastes from others...so you try yourself...I mean if you ask me to have vista you need to have atleast 512 MB RAM...or anything above it then Vista will be more Impressive and fast as well...Even i am using it from last 6 months this is gr8 and of course little hard to operated but if you are used to it this is Gr8...And XP is also gr8.... See you buddy do come back to me if you have any questions with softwares or anything like these :)

Windows Vista has many cool features that XP does not have. One of the leading new features is the startup repair feature. When windows Vista starts booting if it detects an error it automatically goes into the startup repair mode. In this mode it will be able to recover from a corrupt registry, missing windows vista files, driver issues and can even do a hard drive repair and memory test. As a computer technician I can say that windows Vista can do 80% of what I can do on startup repair. This alone makes Vista attractive. A few other great features are the search functions with in Vista right from the windows start menu. Another few others would be the Aero interface that lets shows a snap shot of the running programs as you tab between them. Another would be when browsing for programs it’s no longer all across the screen but in on a central location. The four different versions of Vista are also an advantage because business can get a more advanced version for data backup and encryption while normal home users can get the basic and premium versions that will meet their needs. Windows XP has been around for many years. Every new program still works with XP and most likely will for some time. You do not have to worry about any of your existing software not working because you are keeping the same operating system. Because Windows XP has been around the block most of the kinks have been worked out. The operating system as a whole is very stable. People are creatures of habit so not having to learn your way around a new operating system is also a plus. Many companies have proprietary software. Because of this some of those programs will not be compatible with windows Vista. Before getting Vista be sure and ask the software manufacturer you use if you need any updates or if their software supports Windows Vista.

Very slow. For the Ultimate Version you have to have a minimum of 1GB of RAM. This in my opinion is disgraceful.

Vista isn't that bad. It depends on what you have though. Like me I have Intel Celeron M 1.86 GHz (Not bad) 512 MB DDR2 RAM (I have 1GB now) Worked good with 512 though Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 It was runnin pretty good though.. Its Windows Vista basic though.

Windows vista looks nice, very beautiful. I like its appearance but theres a lot of problem with it. Its slow, it consumes a lot of memory, it takes in a lot of power, its settings are complicated and tedious especially when connecting to a wireless network. It took microsoft a few years to perfect xp and now they are forcing people to buy vista. I heard from my friend that windows will no longer provide updates to xp starting next year. How horrible is that? I bet they will come up with another system in the next few years.

I find Vista LOVABLE!! But I also have a new computer, built with the maximum speed and storage available on my order date. I just answered on another question, and told that the Norton that was factory-installed on it gave me trouble... but the Vista itself is great!! I de-frag a few times a week, empty my temp files a LOT, and generally give it room to work. So far, I'm happy!

Vista has very high requirements and is a resource hog. If your computer is not high end, it's gonna choke trying to run vista, so yes, it can be very slow. There is also lots of DRM on Vista. DRM cripples high end hardware running all that wonderful high res video and audio that you spent all that money to play. Your better off tweaking a Windows XP to play your high end box. * Vista may possibly be a decent OS someday in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

There is no such thing as slow OS's....just slow computer machines. Vista is designed for use with faster machines because of more features compared to its predecessors. So if you wish to enjoy faster over-all performance of vista, at least use a core2duo processor with at least 1 gb of ram...the bottom line is, older machines are desgined for the previous operating systems, while vista is for newer, faster machines. I hope this somehow helps you....cheers.

vista is good if you have a lot of video and are running tv tunner..watching tv or dvd..but to the average user..they will have a lot of trouble trying to get vista to do what you want..see a friend who has it..ask them..don't rely on the Microsoft hype..this is a new systme..if you enjoy Windows XP Home then wait ahile longer or you will be having a lot of time talking to the tech support and end up re installing xp..good luck..see a geek friend if in doubt

I've had to use both at work, Vista is not slower than XP overall, but it is much, much slower when doing some tasks that are quite speedy in XP. (viewing files for example). However, Vista is faster switching applications or with many graphical task. In my opinion, XP is the better choice as many software applications are still getting use to the new quirks in Vista and don't have stable Vista designed versions.

Its not like that.. Vista is really very fast but wat it needs is just High Congfiguration Hardware.. Switch to vista only if u hav a good hardware.. Else continue with Xp.. Vista is nothing but Xp in new cover..
