I live in an area where there are a lot of Amish/Mennonite families. One of the two does drive cars but the other ones have the horse and buggy. I have often thought about what it would be like to live that way. My boyfriend says I would never last living like that. He might be right because I couldn't handle not having a computer but I think it would be fun to travel by horse and buggy. With gas prices the way they have been, maybe its not a bad idea.

Who says you would have to live like them all I`m saying is give up the gasoline and ride there is less pollution , you wouldn`t have to give up on computers at all , and you would still help the environment ... You wouldn`t have to give it all up just the pollution ... I would love it thats for sure ...

Then you gotta think about insurance , licec-ncing ,and repairs ... With a horse you would only have vet bills and feed whick is grass or cudd no up keep ... Thats all I`m saying ...

I don't think I would turn back time. Time that already past looks good looking from where I am not, but doesn't necessarily look that good from that side. In general, I wouldn't like to live in a world where women were not equals and had no rights. In particular, my life has been nice so far. True I had quite a few downs but nothing that would make me want to go back and redo things :) I enjoy living the present day without looking too much at the past or yearning to much for the future.

I suppose your right there , However I`m talkin about pollution , if we were all to have horse and buggy there would be less polution , we would all stay doing what we do and not pollute the world and not have to worry about gas prices and insurance Etc.. That must put a hole in your pocket , I don`teven drive but it does mine , only cause the Gov . taxes everything so much . The Farmers are constantly worried about fertiliziation well the horses can provide ALOT ofthat naturally ... I`m not saying to go back in time altogether just to keep our PLanet alive ... If you know what I mean ???

You are so right , and yes I agree thet we do still have time to fix what we have done but is it too late ??? I can almost say that not enough people will stop driving cars ,as they need transportation to get to work etc. Then we need to worry about electricity I`m not sure which is worse ... Maybe if we all work together we stand a fighting chance , but when you look around there are more and more cars and it will keep on this way . We see people all the time to create enviromentaly friendly cars , but how many do you actually see on the road , we can`t afford these , not yet anyways and thats the problem ... Thanx alot ...

I see what you mean. And I agree that many things did not evolve the proper way, and pollution sure is a huge problem among other things. In the times of horse and buggy there were other forms of pollution that could be very damaging as well. Lack of proper hygiene was one of the worst bringing forth disease and even the plague if we go as far as the middle ages. I don't know if going back would help but I do know that we still have time to try and fix the errors and find better solutions. I also know that it probably won't happen - the powers to be are way too busy making money off all the things we are creating to harm ourselves, and to hung on power to even care.

There are pros & cons to this. I would like to go back to horse and buggy's, as long as I still have my computer, cell phone and cable tv. The pros are saving gas, less maintence & probably cheaper to care for. Also It could possibly stop DWI, and many other auto accidents. Which would be a good thing. In my opinon there should only be emergency vehicals on the road, as we would need them to get someplace fast. the cons. Where would many people keep their horses? And wondering how to stay warm in the winter.. Also there are so many people who abuse animals. Guess we would have to get a license for them, like we do for dogs. But I think it's a good idea.

I still want to ride horse and buggy just to save on pollution , its better than driving gas cars and lets face it horses will fertalize the land Haa Haa ... I just think it would be better ... Thankx alot ...

I wouldn't want to return to that time BECAUSE I love horses. They were often badly treated in those times; a city horse could expect to live 1/3 as long as a country horse. Such conditions inspired the words: "London is heaven for women, purgatory for men, and hell for horses." Many of the other benefits, such as real (not fooled around with) food and furniture made of real wood, can be obtained simply by moving to an undeveloped country, such as Mexico.

I did read an interesting series of short stories on this subject... It was called 'a passing fad'. The premise was that every motor vehicle suddenly turned into its animal equivilant (and new vehicles made would turn into animals as soon as the last bolt was tightened) It also included some strange scenarios of what would happen when there were multiple people in the car, milk delivery trucks, motorized roller skates, and other things. You might like reading it; I forgot the URL to where I found it, but you should probably be able to find it if you search for it the right way.
