Love my job, but, financially it is not meeting my needs.

I really love my job. It has been one of the most rewarding I have ever held. the problem now is that it is not meeting my financial needs. There is not enough work at the present time to keep me working for 40 hours a week. My work schedule varies from 30-35 hours a week. When I applied for the job they said it would be a full-time position. With clients going into nursing homes or passing away, they have had to lessen my hours. Hopefully we will get more clients so I can work more hours. If not, I may need to look for another job. I really don't believe I could work a second job, so that is not an option.

Don't worry you are not alone. There are lots of them who are in company with you. There is a saying that "if you did not get the job you love, just start loving the job that you got". If only if everyone got their job of their dream, there will not be any financial issues or bad situations like robbery or cheating, etc.

Yeh, I can identify completely. this is the fiorst job I have ever truly enjoyed. the people are great, we're a close group and we eat good, lol. I work on the town crew at our transfer station. the hourly pay is good but it's not full time. Ive looked in to getting something else on the side but it's hard to get something that works with the schedual I have now.

I would suggest trying to stick out since you really love what you're doing. Try looking at your budget and rework your payments or maybe consolidate some bills to get your payments down. See if one of the credit cards will give you a zero balance transfer. Call the credit card company to negotiate a lower interest rate. Cut out some of the little expenses if you can. Take a lunch instead of buying lunch. I think you may already be doing that though? Rent a movie instead of going to the movies. If you have extras on your cable, drop the showtime or whatever and just get basic cable. I doubt you'll find a big expense to cut, my experience has been to cut out the little expenses - they do add up. Hope you find these suggestions helpful?

I do live very frugally. We have cut our expenses, but there is always something to take the place of what was cut out. I plan on sticking it out for a bit longer. I do enjoy my job enough to stay on.

Summer is slow all around it seems. The population is aging every day and we baby boomers are getting older to. It is a waiting game and sorry that the timing is not better for you. Not sure what to tell you, this is a good opportunity and it should work its way through in time. I hope you can wait it out someway!!

I have had a similar problem with my job, while I like it here (don't love it) I think I could be making more, but at the same time I would have to give up a lot. I have been casually looking to try and find something I like as well as pays good. I think you are kind of stuck though, I mean if you can't afford to stay you pretty much have to leave, but if you can wait it out for some clients then you may want to do that if you are happy there. Maybe you could just look around for something until you find something just as good.

I think I would hang in there just a little while longer. There is always more people needing help and I am sure there will soon be more clients. I would think that would be a fast changing paced job. Lots coming in and lots going. Sorry it isn't looking so good.

I know that I should take a deep breath and pray that the hours improve. I do have to work this weekend and it will make up for the loss in last weeks paycheck. But, it really took me by surprise when I opened my paycheck.

It is so sad to be hired full time, and then hours cut. But, all the big corps are doing this, and the smaller ones started. This is what happened to my husband over and over. But, when you want to leave, you must give a two week notice. But they can fire you on the spot, or drop your hours. Not fair, but a fact of life what is going on. Second off, if you really love this job, reconsider staying until it picks up. Being happy at a job is very important, even if it doesn't cover the bills. Good luck on your decision sugar. God bless you. M&M

I will be offering my services when the opportunity arises. Sometimes you can get a bonus for working a shift that nobody else wants to have.

How frustrating. It seems like there is always something, isn't there. I hope your company gets more clients soon.

I am hearing you there. I know that those types of jobs go in cycles. Because of the heat lots of the fragile people end up in the hospital. I only have my part time job this summer, and we will bottom out in July and August if I do not get something else going on. I talk a good fight about online opportunities, but I have not stuck to any of them sufficiently to make them work. The plus side is, it is usually easier to find a job if you have a job. Luck of the universe or something. I will let you know if I find a way to make a fortune, or at least pay a few bills.

I am sure things will pick up for you soon. Just a thought, are there other agencies in your area that deal with the same thing? The reason I ask is because I knew a girl who did work for several agencies. If there are some in your area, maybe you can get a few clients from there. You are already trained. She also did some work in the nursing home with a few clients. I believe she mostly helped out with feeding. It took some of the strain off of the nursing staff. Good luck.

I know of a few people who are looking for private duty aides. Maybe that would help too. But, I will wait a bit before I jump on that one. I am exhausted when I get home in the evenings. Better to build my stamina and wait it out.

It is physical work. I know that I wouldn't have the energy to do another job after I finished this one.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that... I know you were very excited about this and happy to be doing something you found to be useful. I do hope that it all works out for you. I know it can be frustrating when you have a job you have little control over. Are you still looking just in case? Maybe just keep an eye out for something else... Best of luck to you!

Loving your job is 95% of the rewards. The money may not be enough now but the increase of elderly should be happening in the near future. We are beginning to hit the baby boomers cycle in the world today. Have you talked to your supervisor about more hours? Sometimes they will give the extra hours to the ones that request them. Good luck.

Yeah I got this problem too, but I got no other choice at this stage. Whether I like or not I have to have a job otherwise I can't get the money to fulfill my everyday life. I guess in my case I will need to keep working hard to earn the money. I had a thought before to look for new job but at this current job I will need to stay longer so my employment history looks solid. From the current job I have, the next step would be to step to work for another new employer or I hope that I could start my own business.

It's terrible when you can't make ends meet. There's not much you can do here other than find someting that pays better or wait out the slowness. Good luck.

I job you love is really hard to find. I've changed jobs so many times that if I had a job I really loved I wouldn't leave it, even if the money wasn't always so great. The good thing about your job is that you have the potential to make more money so hopefully things will pick up and you will get more hours, but hang on to the job because another one like it may not come along for a long time.

That is so hard when you find something you really like and it just doesn't pay enough or you can't get enough hours. I was going to suggest finding a part time job, but since that won't work, I don't have any suggestions. I've always heard though, that it is more important to love what you are doing, then the money.

I think you have made the right decision. Even though you love your job, since you dont get enough for your financial needs, its hightime that you look for some good and high paying jobs. After all, everyone works for money and if thats not enough, then there is no meaning in doing a job. So think about this, and start looking for a good job. Also, if you dont have enough work to do, then you may loose the skills slowly. So dont stay idle at any work.
