The Countdown to 50!

United States
June 29, 2007 2:13pm CST
In 31 days I will turn 50 years old. This will be a month of reflection for me. A time to look back on all I have done. It will also be a time when I think of what I would want to do over then next 50 years. Yes, I do want to live to be 100. I intend to live joyously for as long as I can.

Congrats!!! Here is something that you could do to help you reflect on your wonderful life and it would be tribute to your 50th birthday. Write down 50 of your great memories of life. They do not have to be in order...but maybe starting at the beginning or even with the most recent and moving back would help to keep things going. But to list 50 wonderful memories would be that reflection for you. AND then...share it with your family. Ask them that as a present, they give you a picture or pictures of that memory. Once finished, put it all together and you will have a book of at least 50 pages for your wonder reflection. :) Happy Birthday!!!!

You go for it girl. Since I turned fifty I have thoroughly enjoyed my life, more freedom from things I used to HAVE to do. Now I make my own rules and have become enjoyably selfish putting my own need first. At last I can do what I want instead of always putting my families' needs and wants ahead of my own.

I am nearly the same age as your then. I turn 50 in February. What are you planning for your birthday? I do't think I will treflect too much on what I have done when I turn 50. But I do have plans for the next 30 years or so. I am niot sure if I will live until I am 100, but my family do live into their early nineties.

I am hoping for a big party. If there isn't one thrown in my honor, I will honor myself. Who deserves a big party more than me? : )

An early birthday to you my friend. Any big plans? Something outrageous? Something new? Something fun? When I turned 30 last year I went to Peru. My present to myself. I hope you have something in mind to celebrate your life.

The only thing I have been considering to mark my 50th birthday is to get a tattoo of a purple butterfly on my right ankle.

Congratulations, Elusive! Just remember that you're not getting older, you're getting better. It's good that you have a positive attitude about getting older. I had the same attitude when I turned 50. The same goes for 60. It is true that you are as young as you feel.

You are certainly correct with that one! I do not feel as if I am going to be 50. What is age anyway?

Wow, I didn't realize that you were older than me. I just turned 43 several weeks ago. But you do seem to have a good attitude about it and thats great. I hope my attitude is that good when I reach that mark.

Wow, golden years is coming. Congrats! Me too, I'll be turning 50 in a few weeks from now, next month to be exact, and I don't know how I feel. I'm excited a little, anticipating this new milestone in my life. I guess more or less we have the same birthmonth, or you're ahead of me in celebrating our birthday. You're right...this is a time of reflecting, of looking back at what I have done with my life...a time to consider my options for the future, to prepare, to live life to the fullest, to have a steady goal, to direct or re-direct, to invest into something useful, and all. But I guess this is really no big deal...it's a phase in life, and we just have to welcome it...greetings in advance...

Happy Birthday! - A dozen roses for a wonderful lady. Enjoy your special day!
Great attitude! Love your outlook on life. I too tend to become reflective at milestone birthdays. I hope you do live to be 100 with excellent health and no ailments, with the love of your life by your side, wonderful friends and family. I wish you a wonderful 50th with 50+ more to come. You deserve it!

You have a good attitude dear. I hope you do all you want before 100 though. :) Why limit to 100? These days, you can go way past it. I wish you the best sugar, as always.

I agree, one hundred is a lovely goal. My hubby is required to make it to at least one hundred one, so that we can celebrate a golden anniversary. If you believe in omens, he had a very good one. While working at one nursing home he became acquainted with a gentleman who came and walked indoors in the winter, in good weather it was outside. He participated in a "cattle drive" fund raiser for the Mennonite church every year, walking a cow/steer on a selected route for pledges. He always earned the highest donations. He shared my husband's birthday, and basically was just going strong until he stopped at 106. He is hubby's omen for 100 years.

Is that the 30th July? I hope I remember. I'm trying not to look back unless it's to relive happy memories. Reflecting on the past can sometimes bring one down and be a waste of energy. I will be turning 55 this year and I find that to be notable for some reason. I hope your wishes come true and that you have a long, healthy and happy life.

I turned 50 over 5 years ago, and like you, I'm planning on living to be 100. I still feel young, and there's so much I want to do yet. I believe we can make it happen.
