Different Cultures Eat Different Animal Meat

I was just wondering since in some cultures exotic animals are used for food, which animal would I find very hard to eat. I have never liked the idea of eating horsemeat. The horse seems like a much too majestic animal. I would also find it difficult to eat snakemeat because I am so frightened of them. I have never eaten venison although I have heard that it is very good. I ate goat when I lived in Tennessee and enjoyed it very much(but I am told it has to be prepared in the right way). I grew up around people who regularly ate squirrel and rabbit. I don't know if I could eat those either. What kinds of exotic meat could you not eat?

Well like you, since I know this about you, I'm part Native American as well--my ancestors ate deer meat...I could never do that...maybe a Bambi complex?? I too couldn't eat horsemeat either. I did one time eat pheasant...but then one day I saw how beautiful this bird was and said...nope..never again. It infuriates me no end that they do have specialty restaurants where nothing is served but exotic animals, like elephant meat, giraffe or lion, etc--I mean--is this really necessary? I've heard buffalo meat is good and not so high in fat like regular meat...but still would be hesitant to eat that as well--they actually do sell buffalo burgers in one supermarket near me

I heard that Ted Turner has a business that sells buffalo meat, pyewacket. I had thought they were still on the endangered list, but I guess not. I have eaten some strange things, but I will draw the line at some animals. BTW, in my culture we eat all parts of the hog(well, some do), and one of my favorite foods is chitterlings. They are really delicious. I don't eat nearly as much pork as I used to because of hbp, but I will indulge myself on occasion.

Hello there! Im from the philippines, and some people here eat dogs. I would never eat it consciously. Some restaurants serve cats and horse meats (allegedly) and I don't think I can eat it too. I've tried carabao (water buffalo) meat and its almost like beef. I'm not an adventurous person but there are lots of exotic foods here in our place that you would even think of.

Your country's cuisine sounds exotic to say the least, puchapox. Neither am I very adventurous when it comes to the food I eat. I would rather have what I am familiar with.

I am not much of a meat eater anyway so there is very little I would eat! I think the only forms of meat I could eat are chicken, beef and pork! I couldn't eat anything else - in fact if I start thinking about where the meat comes from I can't even eat those! xxx

Hi mummymo. I grew up on a small farm where there were animals around all the time. I got to see them in all phases of life. I guess what I am saying is that when animals are slaughtered in a humane manner, I see nothing wrong with eating meat. It's only when the system is degraded that I have a problem with eating the product.

I know I am strange but I just find it hard to eat something that used to run around! It isn't any kind of moral or ethical thing just the way I am! I know I couldn't eat horse, dog or some of the really exotic animals - just too soft I suppose! lol xxx

My dad hunts, so we've eaten venison and rabbit. When I visited family in Korea, we were served dog (actually pretty good) and I've also had alligator (croc?) tail, snake jerky, crickets, lizard, goat, lamb, and frog. Only thing I didn't really care for was lizard.

Oh I think I have had lamb before, I never ate a frog or a snail or any of that kind of stuff, but I hear it is like a delicasy in other places =]

No, olanrewaju, I don't think that people should go around eating dogs-or cats, or horses, for that matter, but maybe these people grew up in a culture where this was acceptable or encouraged for whatever reason.

Hmm I have eaten Goat, Cow, Chicken, Pig, and a lot of sea animals like Fish, Squid, Crabs and stuff... I do not think that I would ever eat snakes, sharks or bugs (like maggots ewww!).... not on purpose anyway...

I agree with most of what you'd eat. I think a lot of countries eat animals we consider pets like dogs. I could never knowingly eat dogs.

Hello worldwise!(",) I find it hard to eat dogs because they are man's best friend.(",) Although, here in the Philippines many eat dogs and use it as their "pulutan" when they are drinking. Another animal that I find hard eating is our national animal which is the "carabao".(".) Have a great day!(",)

I have known certain people who ate all of the meats you mention, clocks, but I have no desire to follow their example. With all the negative reports about our foods these days, I'm leery of eating the things that I normally eat.
