While everyone was concerned about the illegal immigration bill and watching to see what happened, the House of Representatives voted to give themselves a pay increase of $4,400. It's a 2.7% cost of living increase. I wish I could have a cost of living increase!

Oh of course they give themselves plump cost of living raises...while many Americans go without their medications because they cannot afford both food and medications. Many Americans are without health insurance. Many are without a roof over their head. It really irks me to see the priorities that our leaders have for spending the taxpayer's money. I really hope some of our leaders are able to rest at night, I know I wouldn't be able to if I were in their shoes.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a chance to vote for raise or decrease according to our knowledge of how they were performing their jobs for us. That would better the system and stop this foolish activity once they get into their offices in Washington. I did not know this and am sorry to say that I know it now.

Amazing. As servents of the people, they somehow manage to think of themselves first and foremost. But they did cheat themselves because inflation is more like 5 or 6% not the wimpy 2.5% the government boasts. So actually their raise should have been closer to $10,000. So, in that respect, you have to give them credit for not taking the full boat. I know, I know, you are asking what am I smoking...lol

These politicians are the most arrogant bunch of people I've ever seen in my life.
I sure wish that I could vote myself a pay raise.
The ones who make me angry are those who are opposed to health care for all Americans, but yet they have the best health care in the world at taxpayer exspense.
I don't think I've ever seen politics this bad before.

I read that. I wasn't encouraged by Congress' priorities. It seems to me the citizens should have more of a say of when Congress get raises. I think the money should have been used elsewhere. It's not like these people are lacking in money.

It is sad how they can treat themselves to raises anytime they want but yet they do nothing to help the rest of the citizens of this country. They are greedy and selfish and do not care about anyone but themselves. Everyone should get cost of living increases, not just Congress. They should not be making any money as far as I am concerned.

Typical of a politician, they have to vote to stop their pay raise. I wish I had to have all the other workers vote not to accept an automatic pay increase.

You are so good to keep us posted to things like this. No I did not notice. One of my jobs will get a cost of living increase, but it will not be that good this year. The other one probably never gets a pay increase. Both jobs are regulated by state government, but with different criteria and standards. I will raise my hand and vote for a cost of living increase if you will do the same for me, friend.

I'd really like to see them work for min. wage and see how they like it! Cost of living my fat @$$! $4400 is more than some people make a whole year! And economists say that it will destroy the economy to give it to people that DESERVE it!
(Sigh)
