I've made many friends over the years, both online and off. What in your estimation constitutes a True Friend? Why?

A friend is someone who will come and bail you out of jail. A true friend is someone who's sitting next to you in jail and says "Dang, that was fun".

A true friend is someone who sticks with you no matter what. Even if you go a period of time without talking when you do talk you pick up right where you left off like no time has passed. I have had a true friend for over 15 years and we can go months without talking to each other because of conflicting schedules. But when we do talk it is like time hasn't passed. We call each other on birthdays. If something happens in either of our families we are always there for each other. To me a true friend is an everlasting friend. It makes the saying "friends to the end" true.

Awesome answer! Your answer pretty much sums it up. To me a "True Friend" is a "Forever Friend".

A true friend is someone who accepts you for who and what you are, not what anyone else would like you to be. They are honest, loyal, genuine, supportive, understanding and sincerely interested in you and your life. They accept you with all your little 'faults' and habits and do not sit in judgement on you. True friends are to be treasured. :)

A friend is someone who doesn't lie. A friend is someone who is there for you. A friend is someone who will not stab you in the back...A friend is someone who will listen. A friend is someone you can trust....

Two Christmas's ago I sent to my Circle of Friend this poem along with an angel that I made them. This is what a "True Friend" means to me. My Circle of Friends. Thank you for your friendship It means so much to me. My Friends who are like angels for eternity. My life has been so blessed since you have come my way. You are my angels who brighten up my day. Time will never break this bond of friends who truly care. Everyday I thank the Lord for the friendship that we share. So, whenever you are lonely or even feeling blue, Just hold this little angel and know I’m thinking of you.

I don't even know where to start in answering this. All I know for sure is that my true friends would leave a very big hole in my life if they weren't there any more. If my bruised ribs weren't hurting so bad, I might be able to say something that made sense.

Awwww...I'm so sorry that you're still in pain! I sure hope those ribs heal soon. I can't agree with you more - were my true friends not with me, my world would be a very empty place.

Well for any friend there has to be some kind of connection in interests or personalities. But to have a true friend that person needs to be loyal, honest, fun to be around. Theres a lot more traits involved to true friends but sometimes its unexplainable and some friends you just feel naturally closer to than others.

Interesting answer - I agree that there has to be common interests to a certain extent and that the personalities should be compatible, however, to me whether the friend is a "true friend" or just a "friend", those traits are required as well. Some friends touch your heart in different ways than others and as such, become "forever friends".
