Many of you have seen the photography work of my daughter that I have posted on mylot in the Photography Interest group over the past several months. Those photos she took with either a Kodak Easyshare or a Sony Cybershot. My daughter has saved her money and done lots of shopping. She has recently purchased her newest camera. It is a Nikon D40. She is a typical over-the-top drama-queen teenager and aspiring professional photographer. She named the camera "Lance". And from what I have learned, Lance is a boy. LOL Lance and her go everywhere together. For those of you who have not yet seen her work, I have included a picture she took of Gizmo, her *puppy*. Well, I am happy to report that recently Lance got his first job taking photos of Monte Carlo car parts for my hubby. Some of the pictures are posted on Ebay. Lance is now starting to pay off the debts he inadvertently caused for my daughter. Lance is working for the family. Hubby is parting out the Monte Carlo to pay for the new Dodge Stratus. The clarity of the photos that Lance is taking is helping customers to see parts and products much better. This has resulted in less questions and faster sales. My daughter is learning that she can make a living with Lance. Now she is looking colleges. She knows that pointing a camera is only part of what she needs to be successful. Do you have children who know what they want to do for a living?? Are they preparing for their future? What are they doing to get ready?

Another great picture, I love dogs and she captured a true "companion" photo here. Good for her getting her first "job" Now she is seeing her potential monmey wise. My two are 10 & 8 so they are still unsure. My eldest is super dee duper smart and we are hoping he keeps it up and goes on to college. He has interest in science, electronics, how things "work" and has also talked about teaching. Who knows where he will end up, but I am sure he is bound for greatness..lol. My youngest is smart but tends to be a slacker in school. Not paying attention, etc. He says he wants to be a Paleontologist or work with animals. I am sure they will both do great things, my husband and I are working hard to make sure they do something better with their lives.

The one child that is interested in science, electronics and how things work.....look into tech schools like ITT Tech. Between now and then, hands-on classes will be helpful. Back that all up with classes that teach people how to teach. For example: Speech classes, drama club, debate club, choir, singing in a band, anything vocal. Also anything that teaches good writing skills. Children who are good in science, electronics and math have a tendency to also be good in music. Look into music classes. My hubby is an electronic technician/consultant/engineer/product research and development. He does the work and teaches others how to do the work. He was sitting here last night preparing for a meeting. He has to present information to people so they can understand him. Mu hubby also plays guitar and has been in a couple of bands. He is able to play almost any instrument the children have brought to him. Your child seems to be headed in this same direction. Watch out for that Paleontologist!! There is another scientist in the makings. My son wanted to be a Paleontologist when he was 8 years old. When he was 4, he took his tricycle apart and put it back together so he could see how it worked. He is now a helicopter mechanic/armory something. He was an Honor Roll student for many years. I did not think he was paying attention and he never seemed to have homework. Little did I know. When he got bored in a class, he went to his counselor and had himself moved to the advanced classes. I found out when his report card came in. He is now quite advanced in computers. He built a water-cooled computer from scratch to entertain himself. Keep me up-to-date on your two whiz kids. This is going to be interesting as they get older.

why thank you for all your encouragement. The eldest has a zillion "science" projects here at home. We often let him take things apart. His teacher gave him an old robot that no longer worked to try and fix. Guess what? It is now a proud member of our household. He got the thing to work somehow and the teacher was so amazed that she let him keep it. He has been placed in Gifted already. My youngest will probably be tested next year. I just worry he won't give it his all and therefore not be placed. My eldest got in after the test and also they did another test for all the students (back in second grade) and they saw that he was 7 and reading on 17 year old level. He has been reading since he was 1 1/2. We would drive past cars and he would miraculously say what type of car they were. I thought he was just memorizing the symbols, but the doc said, no he is reading. My youngest is really interested in animals right now. Dinosaurs, wild animals, domestic animals. I could totally see him being a vet or working with wild animals somewhere. the kid has no fear !!

My husband and I have no children. It is wonderful that good things are happening for your daughter and Lance. I love that she named her camera and gave it a gender. When I was growing up my mother named her cars. I remember a Betsy and a George. There is something about naming something that is a big part of your life even though it is not human. It really does connect you. Congrats to your daughter, and Lance. May they live happily ever after. And thanks to you and your husband for being such supportive parents! God bless you all! Yessie

If you ever need to have some children in your life, I will share mine but only when I am mad at them. Those are the times that I threaten to sell them real cheap on Ebay. LOL It is not always joyous. There are moments when, as a parent, you really wonder why you had children to begin with. We try to focus on the good times and good things because that helps to keep us going. I suppose we are doing pretty good. Two of the children are now adults and out of the house. Two are at home and in high school. It won't be long now and the nest will be empty. It will be sad when the last child leaves. But it will start a new chapter in our lives. At that point, I may have to start naming cars and other objects so I will have someone to talk to or yell at when I am upset. That way I don't focus too much on my hubby. I would hate for him to get overwhelmed by me. I can talk a lot. Can you tell??? LOL

My girls are 10 and 8 years old. They haven't a clue, but they know by middle school they should start considering their options. I have done well to educate them one what they need to make it. One is school isn't over until after college, not high school. They also know we are saving now for it.

My daughter's grades in high school are such that she may very well qualify for scholarships. That will greatly help with the cost of college. We need to have an idea of what colleges are best suited to teach her what she needs to know. We are looking for photography and business education. We do not want to wait until the last second. My son, when in high school, qualified to take a college class. So he took physics to compliment his high school education. My hubby and I both completed college. We still take any and all free classes or seminars to add to our knowledge and education. We never stop learning.

Wow that is wonderful, about all of you! Hubby and me never attended college. We both come from not so great homes and we didn't get the chance to. We are hoping to start a new tradition with our children. We stress to them all the time, jobs are ok but you want a career. That's why school isn't over until after college. I am so keeping my fingers crossed they choose to go to our local college, which is a pretty good one. That way the cost will be cheaper. I also make their school work now, 3rd and 5th grade a priority cause it all can lead to a scholarship someday.
