One of the email alerts that I receive that keeps me updated on new research in teh medical field sent this to me today. Some new research is showing (well, lending support to what we already researched ten years ago!) that drinking more than 2 glasses of a cola beverage per day is bad for the kidneys. The link to the full report is below. Do you drink a lot of cola? My husband is good for 4-5 per day, and I try so hard to get him to cut back. What about children, should parents try to limit their cola intake? http://www.reutershealth.com/archive/2007/07/04/eline/links/20070704elin002.html

I have cut back...maybe 2 or3 glasses a week and sometime none. I have started that drinking the mixes that are set for the 20 ounce bottles. I can't wait until those come back bad.

I have found one that is an energy drink that is sweetened mainly with Stevia. Hubby has ordered a supply and we can hardly wait for it to get here. I also like just plain green tea in my drink bottle. Made from a bag, not pre bottled.

Well, I am so glad that I do not drink cola much anymore. We drink it once in awhile just in moderation.

Well, that makes sense. To hear the cola companies tell it, soda is a health food. I read recently where drinking soda leads to loss of calcium over time. I am down to 2 or 3 glasses a month. I never drank more than one soda a day and seldom have drank them every day. I would get sick drinking 4 or 5 glasses a day. Wow. I think the sugar is no good and the artificial sweetners are even worse. Now they are coming out with soda fortified with vitamins. What A joke. So, I have cut way back.

just one glass a day if i really need it. yeah, i read a lot of articles about how softdrinks are unhealthy and are actually very harmful. i read that cola can be used to whiten toilets coz it's components are the same as those of our toilet cleaners. studies have also shown that if you put meat in a glass of cola and leave it for a couple of days, it could dissolve the meat because of it's acidic content. so you can just imagine the harm it does to the body. colas taste good though so i find it hard to live without them.

I don't really drink cola ever cause I don't like it, but I have friends who seem to drink it constantly. My husband drinks it too, but I don't think he's too bad about it. I will have to pass along this information though. Thanks for sharing it!

I don't personally, but, my hubby does. There are a whole lot more reasons to cut out sodas, and this is just another one in the long list. I will pass it on.

Soda, particualarly coca-cola, is one of my biggest downfalls. Like your husband, I routinely blast through 4 or 5 per day. Yesterday I decided it was time to lose some weight (I want to lose about 35lbs by my 40th in December) and the first thing to go was soda. I am now in the midst of my self-imposed 3 day monster headache due to caffeine withdrawal but the end result will be worth it.

I rarely drink cola. I love it but I don't really have to opportunity to do it and I'm glad I'm not addicted to it because I know it is really bad for our health. It has a lot of gas and it may cause some problems if we drink it a lot.

it's a very nice and interesting report... it should be taken in consideration by all cola addicts:P but let's be honest... beside cola, there are also the coffee, the red meat, the eggs and tons of other lovely stuff... so all good things are unrecommended, and all unrecommended things are good... so what do do? I think that there is nothing we can do... cos everything we will do won't stop people to get sick or even to die... so consume in small amounts;)

I am a cola addict from as far as I can remember. Around 1985 I started my own consultancy and I had to drink about 5 bottles of cola each day because I was moving about a lot. In 1993 I went to the Middle East and the can was a novelty and I always had one in my hand. Everyone has warned me against this. I am 50 now and a recent medical examination results showed that I am as healthy as ever. So more cola, no fuss.

I have a friend who drinks two colas per day. She will drink it during lunch and during dinner. We used to stay at a hostel and we will go out for meals. Every time she will order colas and I have reminded her not to. But she said she couldn't resist not drinking colas, she was addicted to eat. She even said she was starting to experience signs of diabetes, like excessive fatigue. I didn't see her for some time now, and I hope she's alright. I hope she had overcome her addiction right now for her own good.

hi crazynurse, I like cola, I like it so much that I drink it all day. I drink about a 12 pack everyday. I don't drink water, so between coffee and cola that's pretty much all I drink. I find that most of everything I do will cause health problems in the future for me. But I want to live life on my terms and enjoy everything I do. I used to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and I read an article that said peanut butter caused cancer, so I quit eatting peanut butter. then I heard something else and so I quit that. Before too long I wouldn't be able to do anything because it might cause cancer or long term illness. So I quit listening to all that and started enjoying life. So far it seems to be working, because I am enjoying life. I think after this though, I might cut back just a little bit. Thankyou for bringing this to my attention. Peace, Totty

I can drink up to 6 on a bad day! My norm is 3 - 4. I have never had a kidney infection - had only a few bladder infections in my 30 years. I think parents should limit intake only because of the sugar and caffeine - my daughter is allowed on a day. She gets lots of milk and juice and water.
