Lotus brings home a gift.

While sipping our evening coffee and talking about our day, our friend's cat, Lotus comes running into the house and deposits a lump of something on the carpet near my husband's feet. Oh, great was all my husband could say when he got a closer look to find it was a baby blue jay. We first thought it was a mouse, but it was too big. Then a frog was our second thought. It saddened us to know it was a baby bird. Lovely how they bring home their catches.

Bringing home a catch is a great compliment to you from your cat, it is his way of adding to the home earnings, I guess cats feel they they are contributing to the family, I think it is nice in a way but I hate it too when my cat does it.

Poor baby bird!!!!!!
I wonder where the parents were that Lotus was able to get the baby.
Did you bury the poor baby bird? Or would you have to worry about Lotus digging it back up? :(

The thing is that they actually think that they are beeing good and that they are doing it kind of as a gift =)
I think it is gross as well, however I know that they are not doing it to torture us =)

It touches my heart when my brings something home too. I think this is one way how my pet tells me that he remembers bringing something for me too. I love him, and I don't mind him bringing something as a gift for me. At one time he brought a lizard home and put it down in front of my feet. Even though I felt disgusted about it, I felt he wanted to say he loves me.

Your cat wants to take care of you, and feed you. They want you to praise and thank you. Yes, even the birds are part of the circle of life for kitties and birds.

What a lovely present. Yes, I am being sarcastic. I usually just get mice brought to me. I hate it when they get the birds. I once chased my cat away from a chipmunk. It was a baby one and the cat got it anyway. I was so mad at him but thats the way things work, I guess.

While it pains me to know it was a Jay bird, I know that you are honored by the cat for to bring a gift is their way. Like living in a foreighn country we do not always appreciate the customs we can find the people very charming. I hope this does not happen very often but I am glad you cat loves you.

How sad! I hated it when our cats would kill birds- I didn’t care about mice or moles- but not birds- that is just sad! My cat is now an indoor cat so she doesn’t bring us home goodies- She does kill bugs and bees and leaves them on the kitchen floor- LOL

Poor bird! But your friend's cat was only doing what came naturally to it, bringing home a trophy.
Your story reminds me of the time that my sister's cat, Pepe, caught a mouse and dropped it at the foot of the stairs. My sister's boyfriend happened to get up late at night, walked down the stairs and stepped on the "prize" with his bare feet. Yucky, but funny too. Of course, the friend wasn't the least bit amused, but I thought that the whole incident was hilarious!

I only had one cat that would bring me presents but they were rocks, dirt clogs, flower petals, dandilion leaves, anything that wasn't an animal that he could pick up and carry in his mouth back to me and would drop them in my hand. Strange cat and I miss him. He wandered off one day only to never return. A farmer found what was left of him in his corn field that fall when he was harvesting. Seems a coyote got ahold of him. All my other cats never brought me presents but then, they were all mainly indoor cats.

It's sad for the bird, but the cat just wanted to share. I had a cat several years ago, her name was Sunshine, she caught all kinds of stuff. Even snakes. Now that was very scary. I was always afraid she'd bring one in the house. She was such a wonderful cat, but I didn't like the stuff she wanted to share with me.
