I had a mommys day out at my house last week and I made lunch for all the moms and kids. Well when we were done eating I collected all the scraps and gave them to my dog Creed. Since Casper ran away we have been trying to make Creed feel better. Well one of the moms that was there couldnt believe that I would actually give my dog scraps and made a big deal about it. I didnt really know her very well but she was a friend of a mom we both knew. She said that with all the hungry people in the world I could have collected all the scraps and gone to a homeless shelter or a church and offered it to people that really needed it not my dog. Well needless to say we didnt become friends but was it so wrong to give the scraps to my dog. I mean I donate my time to the needy and offer my cooking services when needed but I just thought this lady took it to the extreme. What do you think?

We feed our scraps to our animals as well, to me it is a bigger waste of food to throw it in the garbage can or to put it down the garbage disposal. There is nowhere in this country that would accept someones scraps, that I know of, except for a pig farm. So I do not believe it was wasteful for you to do so. Just be careful of what you feed the dog, somethings could make him very ill.

my dogs are just like humans, and they get all the scraps, and they always will, i dont think it is wastefull, theres no homeless shelters around this area, and my mum has done contribution to help raising a poor family that lives in ethopia. like i dont give choclate or anything like that to my dogs, but sandwiches, meat and scraps i give to the dog, and the chooks get the vegie peels

There is no where in the US that a shelter or soup kitchen would have served your scraps. The woman is a few french fries shortof a happy meal. Now to make oyur dog feel loved, cuddle it and play with it, table scraps are not good for a dog.

I think this woman's brain was suffering an ID-10-T error. No shelter or soup kitchen or similar organization would accept your scraps. Heck a lot of them won't even except day old or leftover items (whole and untouched) from restaurants. And while there are people who will condemn you for giving your dog "people food," my vet gave me a list of food to avoid giving him (because they're toxic to dogs) and said that in moderation it's ok.

Homeless shelters won't take scraps. Feeding it to your dog is very frugal, just be careful not to feed a lot of sweet stuff. Large dogs can usually handle human food a lot better than small dogs. I throw all of my scrap out to the cats, goats & chickens. Why waste if they will eat? Less feed I have to buy. What they don't eat becomes compost.

What was she thinking they don't take scraps at shelters. Feeding your dog table scraps is ok as long as you don't over do it. We have always given our dogs scraps. They enjoy it and as long as you don't give them too much it won't hurt them.

well i think she did go a little too far. does she really think people would want to eat your sandwich scraps? As for feeding it to your dog, you should watch doing that. Dogs systems aren't made to handle people food, it could make him sick.
