http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=325bc24f-4b3f-4c55-95f8-53d2606088a9&k=50763 Here's the story, an amusement park here in Canada gets sued by a man who was refused entry to the go-karts because he wouldn't wear a helmet. He wouldn't wear a helmet because he wears a turban, and wouldn't take it off. This has happened before in the country with the Sikhs and motorcycles, well, they won that one too. Gimme a break. I feel sorry for the amusement park. Fine, practice your religion, but you shouldn't then be allowed on the go karts or motorcycle where a helmet is required.

I think the right way to handle this is a form of informed consent and a waiver of rights to sue. You know, if it is because of their religion, which is their right, then they need to sign a paper that states something like: I recognize that this is a dangerous activity and any accident that I might have could very easily cause brain damage. I concede that my failure to wear a helmet is making me more vulnerable to such injuries. I hearby give up any right I might have to sue the makers of the equipment or the people operating the track where the equipment is used or the other users of said equipment, because I refuse to wear a helmet while participating. So basically they are signing a risk statement and relinquishing any right to sue for damages.

Apparently that's not an option. It's a law that all go-kart operations in Ontario have to have their patrons wear helmets. Presently, they're trying to get the law changed.
