We were just ready to drive away from the house this morning, I was waiting in the car for Ross and i looked over to the frond door, I said to hubby that there was a bit of stone paint had come off of the brick work round the door, I thought it looked kind of funny so being me had to get out of the car and g have a nosey, It was a wasps nest or bike or whatever you call it, I phoned a friend ( lol like you want to be a millionaire) and his wife gave me a council services number as he was at work, I phoned them and as we are pensioners and entitled to get the service free ( normally about £20 I think ),we have to have a form sent out to ua we have to fill it in and send it back to them, then it gets processed and they come and do the job, it is at the moment the size of a small turnip, My friend says her hubby will come and drop it into a black bag and get rid of it for us, He will probably do it for us tomorrow, I feel a bit indebted to him but he is a really nice guy, And if the tables were turned I would be only to pleased to do it for him,I just think how lovely it is to have such nice caring neighbours, his son Liam has already been along to have a look at it, I have taken a picture ( not too close lol )

We have those all over around here. We just go to the dollar store and get some of their wasp spray. After dark we go out and spray the nest and a couple of days later we go and get rid of the nest. Now if I could just find the bumble be nest so I can get rid of it.

Why not just turn the garden hose on it and knock it down and drown it we do that here and it works also if we can reach it we will put some gasoline or brakeclean on a rag and put that up to the nest. but mostly we just use the garden hose and drown it than when it falls we mash it up.
nice pic and your right we dont want it. good luck.

I am glad they will get rid of it for you! I hate those things. We end up with them quite often as we live in the country and I am terrified of wasps. My husband can knock them down; I stay far away LOL. I got stung by a wasp a few months ago and I am still having problems with the infection from the sting re-occurring. Good luck and be careful!

Those wasps can be quite pesky, weemam. We used to have a lot of them when I lived in the south, but now I rarely see any. It is very thoughtful of your neighbors to take care of the situation for you. Wouldn't it be nice if all neighbors were that caring and considerate? Just take care until they have removed it.

Not too close you say? Well I am highly allergic to wasp stings and one could be fatal! Ironically last weekend when I was at my parents I spotted a wasp nest in the pear tree it was like a big paper ball enwrapped around the branch. Dad got some wasp killer and directed it right into the hole not many wasps came out, I think the wasp season is still quite early because we haven't had the hot weather. Anyhow the next day we do the same, he then breaks open the nest after squirting more killer inside and then he burnt the nest. Horrid things! Glad you got rid of it they are a blight on animal kind.

I feel for you. We have nests too and no matter how many we get rid of more show up. Its a never ending battle. :( Thankfully at least they are on the side of the house we aren't on that often, but still it gives me the woolies to know they are there and just EVERYWHERE this summer for us.

Those pesky wasps and hornets too show up in places you certainly do not want them. Like anywhere. I keep a can of wasp and hornet spray on hand all the time as I have an old house, and lots of trees, etc. that cause them to love my property. I will use this spray just after sunset or as the sun is rising, as they are less active, and more likely to be in their nests. It sprays from 20 feet away, so I feel quite safe using it. Good luck to you.

Hi Weemam, you're right you have something and I don't want it. LOL I looked at the picture oh gosh that is the biggest thing I have ever seen a hornets nest. I 'll stay away from them. It was very nice of your neighbor to help out. When you said the wasp bike I was picturing them riding a bike oh that would be funny to see the wasp ride a bike. Thanks for sharing the picture and glad that you got rid of it too.

Oh weemam be careful! My best friend had the same problem yesterday only by her back door. She sprayed it with bug spray from inside the house and waited for the wasps to leave then she knocked the nest down. I hate being stung by wasps I think the last time I was stung was as a child though. I remember it hurting alot and my mother putting a baking soda and water paste on it to make it feel better. If anyone gets stung you can try this.

Well I hope they don't come my way honey! The other half was clearing out the kids play -shed yesterday as he had just put a whole load of stuff in there to get it out of the way a while back and she couldn't get in to play! Well he had left a Christmas stocking in there and there was a bee hive inside it! She was distraught that he got rid of it no matter how often we told her that it was dangerous and Daddy could get badly stung if he tried to salvage the stocking! Poor little mite - if she had her way we would never have any rubbish!
