Who is that man?

Just now, I had to walk down the hall to take something to another office. As I passed by the main reception area, a well dressed, very nice looking man, smiled and said hello and called me by name. I responded in kind, and we chatted for a few minutes. I knew that he looked familiar, but I couldn't place him at all! I went on to Tina's office. When I passed back by Sue's desk, I stopped. "Who was that man that was just here? I know him, but I can't place him at all." I asked her. She called off the name of my husband's cousin, who is also a pastor here in the Central Arkansas area. Not only, had I not recognized the man who married my brother and sister in law, but one who was family! Has this ever happened to you? Did you feel embarassed? How do you handle these situations?

No it has not ever happened to me but if I saw any of my Cousins I would not recognize them and there are 14 of them I have not seen any of them in over 25 years now and I do not believe that I ever will see any of them again as I live in a different Country and everyone drifted apart over 25 years ago I would not look for them apart from one maybe

That makes me sad for you gabs. I live not far from most of my cousins, and we see each other all the time. Get together for holidays and birthdays. Our kids loved to play together when they were younger.

I stood in line one day behind my first husband and while he looked very familiar, I did not recognize him. since he was renting a video , I asked the clerk who he was. Yes, I felt embarrassed. Then again many years had passed since I last saw him. He had changed considerably.

Oh that's funny. I take it there were no children, that would have kept you in touch with this man. Give us the dirt girl...had he changed for the good...or the bad?

I have done things like that before and did feel embarrassed. Where does your husband's cousin preach? If it is from the Little Rock to Morrilton area I might know him also. I hate when I know the face but can't remember the name. It is very frustrating.

He has been in Hot Springs at Fairdale Baptist for several years. He just left his pulpit due to health reasons. (I found this out from my brother today) and is looking for a job with less stress. His blood pressure is not going to allow him to pastor any longer, which is very sad.

Sometimes I fake it, like you did, and then ask someone else. Other times, I say, "I am pretty sure I know you, but at this time I am not sure why, my name is_________ and you are?" I apologize for my lapse, but then again funny things happen. I met a woman this year that I know really well by face. When I drove a bus she waved at me every morning at a certain spot in the road. That was about eleven years ago. We both now work part time at the same adult residential service. I am just honest, usually, and say, I am so sorry I have forgotten your name. Sometimes they have forgotten me as well.

Wednesday afternoon, I left work for the afternoon and went swimming with Lauren. I was in the restroom at the pool and a lady came out and was staring at me. She said Did you go to high school at Fountain Lake? I said Yes, a long time ago. She said So did I. I'm Angela She was one that I'd run around with in High school, but then we'd drifted apart and I hadn't seen her in 20 years!

I have learned to just speak up right then. I have said, "I know you but I can't for the life of me remember how I know you. Please refresh my memory. " Afterwards I will apologize for my faulty memory and things usually go well.

I do that sometimes. Friday night, my son's friend came over because they were all going somewhere. There was another young man with them, that came in and called me "mom" I knew that I should know him, but he got out before I could ask James who it was. It's been driving me crazy, but I haven't had time to ask my son.

i most of the time forget names especially if that person isn't really a part of my everyday life. but i remember faces just like you. there are times when i do feel like i know the person and i am certain that i have met her/him already in my life. i just can't remember when, how and why. but i do recognize the face. but i don't feel embarrassed at all. there are times when i ask the person where and when did we meet or if we have ever met at all in the past. and most of the time, we laugh about it. ... anne

We meet so many people, with my husband being in the ministry. They remember us, because we will come in to either preach, or him with his southern gospel quartet. But we have to remember hundereds, where they have just 10 or so!

LOL Well I think we all do that at one time or another. I hate to see someone I know and they call me by name. The entire time we are talking..I am thinking "Who is this?" lol I hate it when that happens. You dont really want to ask who it is but you really want to know. LOL

I try to slip around and asked someone else if I can do that! This way, I don't feel quite so embarassed! I just got off the phone with Mike, who laughing hysterically at me. This particular cousin is a man that I've known for years!

I swear I could walk right past just about any one & not know them. I'm terrible about putting faces with names, always have been. If I see someone out of place I generally don't know them. I went to Walmart one day for my client & ran into a lady that did product samples at the pet store we've been working with. I didn't know her when she jumped out of the car & said, "Hello Cat's Angels lady." (Cats Angels is the group I'm with.) I had to ask who she was, well, she did startle me. Then when I was inside shopping I ran into one of the ladies who works where my mom lives. I recognized the uniform or I'd've never recognized her!
