Sucked into Slumber

United States
July 18, 2007 7:12pm CST
When I got home from work I was exhausted. Not even the shower revived me tonight. I cooked a simple meal, an omelet and toast. Our coffee was taken in the living room. Of course I had to sit in my favorite rocking chair. I drank my coffee and watched the evening news. Hubby and I carried on a conversation about cars, health insurance, and the kids. Despite the fact that I finished my cup of java, I didn't feel any livelier. In fact, I felt drained. The chair began to suck me into slumber. I woke about 30 minutes later feeling a bit groggy from my cat nap. Hubby came out at about the same time I woke. He asked if I felt better. I did.

I think that sometimes we just get so mentally and physically drained that we cannot function. Even a cat nap will revive us some at this point. But a really good nights sleep will do much better to improve your overall feelings of tiredness. Hope you are all rested tomorrow and back to your self again.

I have had a lot on my mind these past few weeks. It seems to be taking a toll on my overally well being. Menopause is also causing me to not have restful rest at nights. Being on my feet nearly all of the day is tiring too.

Work can sometimes do that to us. At least you got some rest and are feeling better. Cat naps are all we need sometimes.LOL

It seems that lately I am completely exhausted at days end. I require at least 30 minutes of shut-eye in order to recharge.

She's fortunate because she has still time for a nap. Me?I don't. The moment I arrive from school, there still some chores to do. Because I run the entire household (my mother is in Manila for back therapy due to an injury), my day starts its end with cooking dinner, washing dishes, feeding the dogs, feeding my father who has tuberculosis of the lungs. he is so weak he can't go to the bathroom without someone to help him nor he can feed himself. Then I wash my school uniform, I instruct my younger brother to clean up the mess in the dining room and do his homework before playing computer games. Then I make sure everything in the house is in order before i lock the gate and the doors. I have to read up on my lessons and do some home reading. then i shine my shoes and prepare my bag for the next day. i iron the uniform of my brother. then i make sure my father didn't have feces in his bed. i make sure he take all his medicines. we talk before he sleeps. but he doens't sleep yet at 1 am. he insists on staying so he could talk to us because he loves us so much he isn't prepared to die.we love him too. now comes the hardest part. the ironic thing is, i'm so tired that i don't even consider going to sleep anymore. i also have a big load of stress coming from the major setbacks in my life. so it helps that once i lay down, i can always cry myself to sleep. and that's a good thing...

even the most active person on earth has such kind of "slumber" days. i had always been active in anything and everything. but there comes a time when i feel not doing anything at all. i just wanna sit on the couch or lie down on the bed. i am not sick but i just wanna be in that place. and most of the time when feeling that, i get into napping. and upon waking up, i don't usually feel better but worse. gosh! but you have a wonderful husband. he's always there for you making you feel good and at ease. and it's good that he makes you feel better... anne

Hey nothing wrong with a cat nap, sometimes that is just the ticket to pull you through the rest of the day. :) I am glad you felt better after it too.

I used to have a couch that sucked me into slumber too. One day I didn't even make it to the couch. I came home from work and it was such a beautiful day. The kids were outside playing, looking up at the clouds trying to find shapes. So I did it too, except the only thing I found was the inside of my eyelids.lol.

Its so nice when you can relax after a good days work. I've found that I often fall asleep in the easy chair as well. I often lie down on the bed for about fifteen minutes in the pm and that does it for me. I find myself going to sleep in the car (I am not driving.) We all need those little bits of sleep or we would all go crazy, wouldn't we?

hmmm, well, i know that the other day, me and my fiance came home, and we asked her grandmother to watch our daughter for a bit while we went and took a nap. 14 hours later we woke up. i apologized to her, because she was stuck with the baby all night, and i had intended to get the baby from her so she could get some rest.

I often get pulled down into sleep by the recliner, but usually I feel better for it. When I am that tired, nothing helps me, not coffee or anything else. I know that you are working in the heat and humidity, and that can be very rough. I do hope the nap helped. Maybe you should make that part of your routine.

Awww, sounds like you are really exhausted. The heat will do it to you on these hot days even if you work inside. I stay indoors as much as I can but the heat from my commute to and from work will just drain me. I've had days like that too, just come home and fix dinner, eat, shower and fall in the bed at 7:30 pm. Hope ya perk up!

The trouble with "napping" at a late hour, is that it can effect your ability to fall asleep later. No matter how exhausted I feel at the end of the day, I try to carry on up until bedtime. Are you still having all that humidity? When I take ianca to swimming training, I sit i the centre, & nearly fll asleep sitting up in a plastic chair, as the humidity is so high in a heated swimming area. I resort to coffee too.

I try to nap as soon as I get home from work. I too have a difficult time falling asleep at bedtime if I have napped too late in the day.

LOL—I do this all the time- In fact I could crash right now- but I’m at work- I can just tell when I’m going to sleep- and nothing makes me wake up either- I usually try soda pop- for the caffeine- sometimes I just lay on the couch and snooze for a bit- and then I’m refreshed- sometimes it makes me worse- It’s funny I must look different after napping- because sometimes I head out side and my sig. other says- you just woke up didn’t you? lol

What you described appears to be a heavenly rest I definitely welcome. A simple meal of omelet and toast with a drink, rocking on the rocking chair, chatting and relaxing with a caring hubby... how I envy you. I do not have such a luxury.

Sometimes that happens. You must have needed it. I hope you will be able to sleep tonight. I have trouble falling asleep if I have taken a nap.

Yes, I find a power nap to be one of the finer things to help get me through the day. Nice that your hubby let you sleep. I find that 20-30 minutes is good, less time and it does not help, more and you are groggy and can not get back in gear.

I have done that too. Sometimes a little cat nap is just what we need to revive us.

i feel like that sometimes after i get home from work as i have major knee issues. fortunately i only work until 1:00 so that gives me a chance to have a rest before hubby and kids get home (well during the school year anyways)and while i have laundry in...i usually feel better after a rest even if i dont have a nap.

I just woke up from like a 5 hour nap :P My boyfriend came home from work at 4 and wanted to nap until he had to go back at 6 so I joined him and didn't wake up until he came back home again from work. Now I'm wide awake!
