Mopping the Floor

Every client I have has a different mop. The one I find most effective is the string mop. It lasts longer than conventional sponge mops and covers a larger area faster than the sponge. There are some like the Libman mop that has a cylander that you push down over the mop to wring it out. I love it that my hands don't touch the mop. The problem is that the mop isn't as good as a traditional string mop. I remember using old cloths as a mop head. Old socks can be recycled as a mop head too. The cotton ones clean very well. What is your preference?

Have you ever used a Vileda mop? Here is a link with a pic of it... http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/img/products/132347_t.jpg I have one and I have to say I love it! It has the same ringer guard on it as a Libman so your hands stay dry, but it also has the srubbies mix in with the strips, that makes scrubbing those hard to remove spots so much easier. This is my pick, hubby bought me one a few months back and I have been too tickled with it. The only thing that could improve it is if someone else mopped the floors, LOL.

The link you gave me didn't work, but I found one that did. The mop looks like one that I would suggest my client's get. Here is the link. http://www.vileda-springclean.com/index.html

I think I have one of every kind of mop, and I have yet to find the one I am looking for, a mop that uses itself LOL. My problem is that I do not have that much to mop. I did buy a string mop recently, because my plan was to recycle old clothes and towels that are in too bad a shape to donate to GoodWill. I also like that you can run them through the washer and clean them up again and reuse for quite some time. Granny had a string mop. My mom used to use a Stanly mop, it was some kind of a foamy strings.

One of my client's use a sponge mop and the floor that I have to mop is slate, the kitchen is huge, they have 4 dogs and 2 cats, raise horses and it takes me forever to get the floor clean. I am going to suggest they get a string mop so it doesn't take me so long to get the task done. I would use the sponge mop for the wood floors only.

I prefer the tradional string mop. I use it with a squeeze mop bucket. Hubby however, prefers sponge mops, which can just be p[lonked in a bucket. When I put the string mop outside to dry, the dog half ate it!

Cotton mops not only clean better but they absorb better also. I have solid oak floors all over my home and water will ruin them rapidly. I have to be very careful and keep them oiled down and free of water. I only use a cotton mop. I have found that the industrial mops with replaceable heads are the very best mop on the market but you need to also purchase a mop ringing bucket. That is about 40-50 bucks but they will last for years and years. Easy on the hands and the back.

I really DON'T like mopping the floor with anything...when ever I mop, it seems as if nothing has been accomplished anyway. I like using cloths and just getting on my knees and washing the floor with that...since I don't like how hair and stuff gets stuck in a mop (wet hairs on the ground are one of the grossest things ever). Also, that way you can apply pressure with your hands to get off stains a lot more effectivly than if you use a mop.

I just bought one of these new mops with strips of thin sponge type of thing and it didn't last long at all so I am going back to the string type of mop, I have mainly tiles in my house so a mop is what I use most of the time so I need it to last a bit longer than this new type of thing...

I personally don't like mops. I never use them, I dislike the way they clean and spread stuff. I sometimes wet jet, but that is only when I want to do that quick clean. When I really want to clean the floor I get down on my hands and knees and clean it with a cloth & a bucket of cleaner.

That old string mop is my absolute favorite. I can clean easily or use some force for a stubborn spot. Cleaning in the factory where I work that mop takes cae of greasy spots, spills of pop and other things. It is really easy to rinse out and the wringer on the bucket is awesome. Just need to change the water often. That could come easier. Rubbermaid has those wringer mop buckets and they are worth every penny.

Mopping the floor? We are supposed to mop a floor? I didn't realize that, no one told me! ha! Just kidding. I think a lot of the new fang-dangled mops/brooms don't hold a candle to the good ole fashioned stand bys! I too, like the old-fashioned string mops, but I now have a hard time wringing them out very well with my weak hands!

I like a string mop and very hot water so I wear rubber gloves while cleaning floors...bathrooms too. My Dad has a very good bucket with a pedal/spring action that squeezes the water out. They are pretty expensive to buy so I use my hands ..lol. I always found that after the first couple of uses the sponge mop didn't do such a great job.

I like the kind of mop where you do not have to bend down and squeeze it and I do not like getting on my hands and knees. I have this combination sponge mop and brush. But I do not like it because it has that sponge and sponge mops rot. I wanted to get one of the squeezy string type mops, but I also need something to remove the black stuff like gum and sticky stuff. My husband shops with me and he is in charge so he decided I had better get the combo sponge mop. Have any of you had that problem?

I am with you on this subject, I so prefer the string mop - especially if it is a good and full cotton mop, some of them can be rather wimpy. The cotton fibers just really gather up the water and mess - I like the way it glides and feels like you are really cleaning. I really like to use them with a mop bucket and wringer! but do not mind so much wringing by hand. I have also saved old cotton socks with holes and whatnot for attaching to a mop and it makes a useful quick mop. I suppose the most effective style of mopping is on the hands and knees, also gives us the best workout, but my knees just can not take it anymore.

I love my Libman mop because it's lightweight, and I don't have to touch the mop head to wring it out, like you said. I like to use it for a quick cleaning. I have a Hoover Floormate that I like to use, because it sprays out clean water with whatever kind of floor cleaner you want to use and then vacuums it up, and the floor dries fast.

I used to have a sponge mop because I hardly had any floor to clean. But now since we took out all the rugs, all I have is floor. My boyfriend has always liked the string mops so that is what we have. He also has one of those old fashioned wringer things that sits right on the big metal bucket. Sorry, I'm not sure what they are called but I know they used to be used a lot in the schools. I am not overly fond of it because it is very heavy to lug around, so he does a lot of the mopping.

I use a string like mop from the Fuller Brush company- Remember them?? I work for their parent company and we are able to purchase product at employee cost- the stuff is wonderful- the only problem with this mop is I have to wring it by hand- but it is great- Lasted much longer than mops I've picked up in stores.

String mops(or as we used to call them "rag mops") are my favorites too, Elusive. For performance, nothing comes close. I hate sponge mops. They are only good for wiping up spills. I wet my kitchen and bathroom floors down with the string mop and end with a job well done. You don't get this with those wimpy mops.

I don't know what kind of mop to get. I have used the string mop, it does cover a bigger area. I use a sponge mop but it just slides the dirt around. I have used a swiffer wet jet when I cleaned some consumers homes and it was nice. Not sure what I want. The string mops you can throw in the washer. I have a bizillion socks so I guess that is what I am going to go with..LOL..who knew? Thank you for the information. Happy mopping.
