Got your attention there lol, A friend of mine bought a boxer dog a couple of years ago , she brought her here and I played with her and felt my face and especially my lips go really itchy , the next day I had my head on one of the cushions from the couch( settee) and the same thing happened , I just assumed I was allergic to dogs and have been really careful since when I have patted one to wash my hands before going near my face , Anyway Ross was at the safari park today and when he came home I went to wash his new top by hand in case the dye run , as I was washing it my face lips eyes and arms started to get itchy , he then came in to the kitchen and started to tell me he was in the petting are of the park , he clapped .camels, lamas ponies and other animals , I realized then what was wrong , I was allergic to some of them too if not maybe all of them , I got baby wipes but it was getting really itchy , I ended up in the shower and stood in it for ages, so now I think I would better not go to the safari park and I would better also to keep baby wipes with me at all times , xxx

Yes my beard and moustache is still itchy LOL! I thought by now it would have settled down, I am adamant I am keeping it especially as my housemate said he didn't like it LOL! Less vulnerable with it! But it don't arf itch at times LOL! I am also susceptible to itchy eyes, I don't know if it's hayfever or the cats but my eyes get really sore because they itch! I hate putting drops in them, don't laugh but I use cucumber to soothe them!

I've got no one to take it for me :0**( and I'm certainly not asking my housemate because he'll clock it up as another 'favour' to be repaid! I will have one done at my retreat! So I will post it on my return xxxx

I think it must have been an allergy from the safari park because it you were allergic to dogs I'm sure you would have a sometime before this been near a dog.

How strange...my neck back and hands became itchy as I read your post...actually I'm feeling rather itchy all over, no kidding. The power of suggestion is alive and well. Have you noticed this type of reaction prior to these episodes? think an antihistamine is called for. Hope it's not too uncomfortable for you dear friend.

Yes I have...we have 5 cats and 2 dogs and sometimes their dander and hair doesn't bother me at all. Lately the weather has been hot and humid and I am itching a lot more than normal. Mine is around the face too...and it helps to shower a couple of times a day...but I wondered if it has something to do with the humidity...or when the air is too dry. Whatever it is I think I'll take your suggestion and keep some wipes wherever I am so I can wipe my hands after petting the animals...because I wond't stop doing that. Furry, cuddly friends that they are! I love them so much that I'll put up with the itching rather than living in a world without our beloved animals.

Hi weemem! Oh yes you did have my attention there! lol! Although I don't have any allergic reaction to animals, I did "itch" when I ate some oysters. I then learned I have allergic reactions to some seafoods. I never forgot that day because I was itching all over my face and my back, and I had some reddish blotches all over. So, I am really avoiding oysters and some seafoods no matter how much I wanted to still include them in my menu. Have a nice day!

If it gets really bad you can take an oral antihistamine. Most commonly people will take the over-the-counter product diphenhydramine (Benadryl is the name brand). It is not very expensive, and will relieve the itchiness. I am glad the baby wipes work well for you, as that is even better than oral meds. Benadryl make cause sleepiness, and on the other hand it can also make you wired, or hyper.

Animal allergies are relatively common, dogs & cats in poarticular. It is usually the saliva people are allergic to, not the fur. From yoiur description, it would apear that you have a significant allery to lots of animals. I couldn't go without my pets, or visiting the zoo, so I have allergy tablets.

I definitely think you better keep those wipes with you at all times too hon. I had that happen each time I'd bathe Meg, but it wasn't because I was allergic to her. It was something the vet called "Shar Pei rash". There's some kind of enzyme in their fur that causes a temporary itchy rash on the skin. It went away really quickly after I washed it though. I'm glad I'm not allergic to my cats...I'd be wearing baby wipes for clothes. LOL

I'm glad you found out what you were allergic to weemam - at least now you know what to keep away from! The body is quite weird sometimes - my friend suddenly developed a really bad allergy to peanuts a couple of years ago (no allergic re-action previously), so she avoided them like the plague. Then about a year after, she ate some without thinking, and nothing happened! No allergy anymore. The same thing happend to my hubby with some antibiotics - he's had the same ones all his life for a chest problem, then the other week when he got a new lot, he came out in a terrible rash all over his body and had to stop them. The body must keep changing throughout our whole life. So, this allergy might just be a temporary thing for you! I hope so pal.

That could be pretty scary! You need to talk to your doctor about getting you an epi pen incase you have an even more serious reaction to animals.

Wee why did you not tell me - I always have piriton (an anti-histameine) in the house, both in liquid and tablet form for the children - it really would have helped the itching and it is an over the counter medicine so it isn't as though it would have been dangerous for you to take - if it happens again just let me know! xxx

Oh man, to be allergic to animals is something that I would not like at all. I have a cat that just turned 13 yrs. old last month and I don't think I could part with her, have had her since she was 6 weeks old but saw her the day after she was born. When my son was a baby he had allergies. When a mosquito would bite him he would swell up really bad at the bite site. My father in law lived in the country on the river and mosquitoes were bad there at times. We would always put mosquito netting over my sons bed but one got in and we counted 32 bites on him. The doctor told me to give him benadryl, it is an antihistamine. He also said if my son ever got stung by a bee while up there to not wait, just head to the nearest emergency room. He also said that he would out grow the allergies. Poor kid used to get bad headaches and nose bleeds because of allergies. He is grown now and insect bites don't bother him at all. Try to get you some meds for times like that so you don't have to be bothered with the itching.

you are probably not allergic to a certain type of animal, but rather to animal dander. It is very possible to develop such allergy in adulthood, and there is not much you can do about, but getting rid of the itch by OTC lotions. You can go to the zoo, but be careful when you touch the animals. Not much of help here. A friend of my daughter has the same problem, and with lotion the itch goes away.

I itch all the time since I have eczema. My doctor prescribe me some itching pills (thats what I call it) to stop the itch. It sounds like you are allergic to animals. Don't scratch too much!

Hi Doll, Can you get allergy tablets there over the counter? If so get some and keep them on hand.I you will be around an animal pop one in your mouth right away. I had a bad time with a flea shampoo that I used on the dogs once. Everytime I went near them I would have allergic type reactions. I discovered when the shampoo wore off and I didn't take them to have it done again I never had a problem. hugs
