About the same way as I feel about pittbulls being around children..no, no, no! I just think these breeds can't be trusted around little ones. I've read about too many instances where they have turned on kids and even their owners. It's better to play safe, rather than be sorry later. Just my opinion :)

Have you ever had one? I have 4 American Pit Bull Terriers & I know many people who have them or have grown up with them. They're awesome dogs. Don't believe everything you "hear"

But how often do you hear of a terrier, poodle or dachshund turning on it's owners? Never. You hear it all the time with Rotties. I'm not saying they are all bad. That would be like saying all men are bad or all mexicans are bad. The point is this breed easily turns on its owners or strangers. It could be something with the way some are raised. It may be in the bloodline. We don't know that. Happy new year!

"everything you "hear"" Exactly. News crews make pits, rotties and dobies out to be the bad guys. I have yet to hear any news story about a pit bull living happily with a teenager or with an infant and NOTHING happens. It's always the bad stories that get published.

I think Rotties are a milder breed than Pittbulls, especially when properly trained. I would trust a Rottie with small children way before I would trust a Pittbull.

And the original Pitty's were bred to be babysitters and actually referred to as Nanny dogs. I've never met a pitty that was vicious ..... I've never met one trained to fight though.

I think as long as you are a responsible pet owner and properly train and treat your Rottie, there should be no problem. As bad of a rap rotties have I have never known anybody to have one that has hurt somebody. They actually per breed standard are excellent family dogs. Check mine out with my 2 year old.

I've never had one. But I know a lot of people who have. I have American Pit Bull Terriers. I see them both in the same category. They're awesome dogs...especially with children. Just like all dogs, it comes down to responsible parenting. Jut keep in mind that it is NEVER a good idea to leave small children & dogs/puppies unattended.

Taz - Taz was our first rottweiler. He loved to go for rides, hiking and camping. He passed away 3 years ago.
We've had 2 very sweet rottweilers. They went to training classes for over a year, earned their Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog Titles. A lot of our friends had rotties and children and were very strict with the dogs to teach them to be gentle with the kids. It's all about the training and not letting the dog push the kids around since they are natural herding dogs.

Rotts are wonderful dogs. I would own one in a heart beat. My kids would know to respect it like all animals. The dog would be familiar with the other members of his pack. They would be this alpha females offspring. He/She would be encouraged to be on his best behavior. Gotten young we would not worry about him/her since he/she would be a member of the family.

In my view Rottweilers are the best , intelligent & caring dogs among all breeds. I had a rotweiler as my first pet/dog, oh! and that make me a really change my opinion for rotties, His name is Panther, he is the best & intelligent, He is around one year now. In my experience my rottie won't ever harm anyone including the small babies. Moreover, he don't even bark without any reason, he examines the situation & people. Rottweilers need more & more love & they return it even more. One thing I want to tell you about my Rottie Panther that whenever I pick up a baby he gets little jealous (in a sweet sense) and bark a little (asking me) to put him/her down because he wants all the affection from me & the funny thing is he always get excited whenever I said good to anybody "Good Boy or good Girl' he just feel that the word good is only associated with him. :)

Our 2 are very good around children, even children that come to visit.
