My 17-yr-old son has been gone for five weeks. He has been atttending the Governor's Scholar Program in our state. The house has just not been the same. His 18-yr-old sister is getting prepared to leave for college in 2 weeks. I just hate it when the 'leave the nest.' How do you cope with your children's absence?

I got rid of my 2 children years ago. My son I don't see often enough. My daughter I see TOO much. HAHAHAHA!! It's great when they finally do leave for good though. It's a rest we all need from parenting. It's hard to release them though. At 29 my daughter is still my baby girl and always will be. At 27 my son is the real baby of the family. Even after all he has done as far as loans from us and not paying me back he is stilled loved. But he isn't getting anymore cash from us that's a given.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well mine are still rather young, 10 & 8, so for me when they leave it's just over night. The first couple of hours is great, me and hubby have a blast, then I start to worry about them after 3 hours. By the time 6 hours have passed I am already missing them and that's when I break down and call to check to be sure everything is OK. When the sun rises the next morning I am up and ready to go get them. So answer your question, I don't think I do very well with it LOL.

Yeah, that is great for you then. I am not sure if I will ever be ready to let my one year old go someday. I just can't imagine letting go but we'll see how it goes then.

I got a new husband. Of course that was nine years ago, and that is hard to believe. Even in college my daughter was all the time off to somewhere or another on missions trips and the like. Youth retreats and conferences. Hungary two times, Mexico a time or two or three, Chicago for a year. Before that she traveled as a Christian clown with a group. She went to college less than a block from here, but traveled with performance teams. I will always miss having my kids around, but I sure admire them. Son is in town, has kids of his own. Daughter is in Minnesota, so I got her to join some things I am in, and I e-mail her a lot. She posts here once in awhile, but not always in my threads. Are those the only two you have, or are you keeping a younger one in reserve?

When my sone first left at the age of 18 he was mad at the world, he argued with us everytime we turned around. I was so ready for him to leave. Then he came home and was home for several years. He just left again this February he is 26 and it was time. He did help out when my hubby first had his stroke. When he left this time I was so ready again. I do miss him, and I love him very much but I needed the quite and the peace. It is so nice to see him. We have seen him three times since then and it is great everytime.
Our daughter slowly moved out, she was going to college in a town an hour away. The drive got to much on her so she stayed with friends three times a week. It got so she finally moved out. I was ready.
We could not afford to pay for our kids to go to college and they where not smart enough to get much in scolarhips so they lived at home and went to the journor college. I payed for the journior college and when my daughter transfered to the university she got a student loan and she is paying that one off herself.
Now she is married and living an hour away. She works full time pluse, takes care of her hubby and his parents. We do not see her much except on holidays. The last time we saw her was Fathers day. We have seen our son twice since then and he lives 5 hours away from us. He came her once and we met him in Lake Tahoe last weekend. It was great to see him and his girlfriend. I am getting attached to her, she is turning out to be a sweetie.
