When did you stop wearing too much make-up?

When I was a teen, I was still experimenting with various looks and often that meant over-doing the eyeshadow or cosmetics. It was the 1980's after all, so most people just considered that to be normal. But, once I hit my 20's I had to stop using cosmetics because of my overly sensitive skin.
More recently, I've begun experimenting with makeup again and found that it's not a talent that one is born with! I have missed out on so many wonderful years of wearing makeup. And, now that I must know how to put it on correctly, I don't! So, I guess you could say that I am still learning how to properly put on cosmetics. Sure I know how to line my lips and put on shadow. But, I have yet to figure out which colors work best with my skin tone. And, when it comes to coordinating my eyes, lip and cheek colors, I have to buy makeup palettes so that I don't get the colors wrong.
How about you? When did you finally perfect the art of putting on makeup to create a flattering look for yourself?

I have been wearing makeup since I was 14, and you are right, it is a not a talent one is born with.
It took me a few years to figure out what colors work nice for my complexion and skin tone, but I finally mastered it when I turned 16.
I remember I used to always have a foundation line (he he) and I always wore outrageous colors on my eyes.
But once I turned 16, I started reading up in beauty magazines, and I would sit in the bathroom for hours, applying makeup, then washing it off, then reapplying another shade.
I have found warm colors are my best friend.
Browns and pinks work very well on me.
Now I'm a pro, at least I like to think so.

Well for me less is more. I don't wear much make up. On an every day basis I wear mascara, liquid power, blush and regular powder. I believe that too much make-up is not good. WHen I see a woman with too much make-up, I think she looks like a clown. Now, when I go out like to a social gathering, then I'll also wear eyeliner or eye shadow in addition to what I normally wear. The kinda colors that I choose for my eye make-up depend on what I'm wearing and on my mood.
Make-up enhances one's own natural beauty but just be careful that it doesn't take away from you're own natural beauty by wearing way too much. Less is definitely more.

I have never used any heavy make-up. Not even in my colleage days and not even now when I am mother of 2 children. The reason is that I think the more makeup we use the more horrible we look. Specailly those colourful eye shadows, I think it makes girls look like witches........lol. Too much makeup is also not good for skin, as it does no allow skin to breath. I put some light make up only when occasion is like wedding etc.......and my light make includes just a little foundation cream, patted with some light shaded compact powder and light lipstick. You know what makes girls look beautiful, I think it is jewellery, and not heavy ones but light ones as seen now days in zee tv serials. Combinatin of a perfect match of dress with jewellery and light make up........and your smile together makes you most beautiful ........what do you say........lol

Hello beautyqueen26,
When I was in my 20's, I loved to use cosmetics especially the lipstick and the eyeshadow. I wouldn't go out without these two and I loved the eyeliner too. The color should be the same as my clothes, my handbag and my high heels *smile* And, I am a person who loves bright color so much and you could imagine how I look like!
I stopped wearing cosmetics when I was pregnant. I don't know why but I didn't feel the urge to dress up or make up at all. After giving birth, it seems that I need to start all over again. The clothes, the shoes seem too tight for me *laugh* and the colors that I loved before is not the same color that I like now. I prefer pastel colors right now *smile*

I've never thought that I wore too makeup, although my husband thinks I don't need any at all and tells that all the time. I however feel that I do need it, It seems to be as important to me as clothing. I just don't feel right when I don't have any on. My oldest sister rarely wears any makeup and used to tell me, when we were in school (in the 80's), that I looked like I had two black eyes, that's when I started going a little easier on the eye liner, even though I still didn't wear too much, I just wore black, since then I've switched to smoke colors. I also prefer for my foundation to be a little bit darker than my original skin to cover up the red tint my skin tends to have. I've tried lighter shades and they just make me look like I'm sick. So I stick with what I'm comfortable with.
