Do you think that some people 'look like' their name?

School will be starting soon and I will have a new class of nursing students. I will be learning (which is getting harder and harder for me with age!) thirty new names. This brings me to ask you, do you think that some people 'look like' their name? Can people look like they should have a certain name?

I think we probably associate a specific name with characteristics shared by others we have known in the past, possessing the same name. This could include both people in our lives as well as our exposure to the media.
To learn new names it might be best to have the students assigned specific seating and then make a "private chart", where you can write down "unique characteristics" under each students name, until you are able to associate a face with the correct name.
P.S. Practicing your theory...could actually make it more difficult to learn new names.... Don't you think?

Yes, I definitely suffer from associating certain characteristics with of those with a name that I have known before. One year I had a most difficult student...and thought the year would never end. Now, if someone has that name I can't help but remember that previous student!

Yes, my neighbor looks like a Fran but her name is Gloria. I always call her Fran. She is such a great lady I just love her dearly but I call her the wrong name.
When I was pregnant with our daughter, we did not know what she was ( 29 years ago) I wanted to named her Cinthia Louise, and her dad said no. So we waffled back and fourth from that to Linda Joanne. When she was born she did not look like a Cinthia she deffiantly was a Linda.

I've often thought this about some people. Some of them indeed seem to fit their name. (I'm not going to say what attributes I think of with some names) I feel sorry for you having to remember all of those new names at the beginning of the year. I can kind of relate though, I used to volunteer and be a teacher's aide (I tutor English). Each season there would be scads of newcomers, and they all like to be remembered on a first name basis (no matter what their age.) Sometimes the name doesn't seem to fit (in our perceptions), other times they do.

Yes, I think they do. And it makes it very hard if they do not have that particular name. It is worse when we are older, too.

Isn't if funny but yes! Every year at school, I run a volunteer reading program for elementary children. Part of my job is to meet the children that will be in the program, before hand and match them with a volunteer who will be helping them to improve their reading skills. Well one game I love playing is reading the child's name before I go into the classroom and seeing if I can pick them out. It's surprising how many times I can. Their has been times though when I have come across a "Jake" and I was wrong cause Jake would be a girl. That's a different subject though.

Gee...my son's name is Matt..therefore he would have no arms or legs...as in mat!
Sorry, every so often I will talk with someone and my visual of them allows me to pick them out of a crowd, much to my surprise.
But I know of very few people who look like etheir name...how would a crazy nurse look...running around with a syringe and hair sticking out...a stethoscope around your neck, along with an IV and an enema bag. I don't think so.

I think some really do and it is just amazing how it fits perfectly in my opinion. I think it is just something else.

Yes, I think they do. When I have had my kids I had a couple of names picked out and I waited until I could look at them before I decided on what name to pick. I have met some people and their name just doesn't seem to suit them.

I think that people can look like their name. I also think that there can be several names that would fit a certin person. I really only notice when a name just does not fit a person at all.
