Do you take medications to help you sleep? If so, what do you take? Do you feel like it works and do you have trouble waking up the next morning after taking them?

I tried Ambien also. It helped me go to sleep, but I was like her, I felt awful the next morning and had a terrible time waking up.

Tylenol PM is great when you need a mild sedative to help you sleep.

Yes, I take sleep medications as I have an illness as well. I could not get to sleep without them. One weekend I went away and forgot to take my pills with me. In two nights I got about 4 hours sleep - if that. I take Nitrazepam. Not a very popular one but it works for me. I think it works with the codeine I take for pain. If I feel drowsy in the morning it is not from the medication but it is from the illness. I do not get into Stage IV sleep therefore I am still tired when I wake up. I tried lots of medications until I found the regimen that works for me. I don't want to change with these new medications coming out because I am afraid of getting side effects. I was on Celexa for three days and spent the whole three days in what felt like a constant hangover. I got off that med pretty darn quick!

I understand what you mean. When you find something that works, why switch.

I was taking Lunesta, but I have switched antidepressants. I'm now taking Cymbalta and find that I don't need sleep medication anymore. It's wonderful to be sleeping naturally again!

I'm taking Lunesta now and it's working for me. I wish I could sleep without taking anything though. It would be nice.

I do not take sleep aids. Sometimes I drink menopause tea. It has something in it to help you to ease into sleep. It is all natural. I think it is valeria root. I do not feel groggy in the morning when I do drink this. It does help me to fall asleep and rest better once I am asleep.

Personally, I don't like sleep medication. I do however take Melatonin. It helps relax my mind and body to help me fall asleep and it doesn't make me wake up feeling groggy.

I have had to once and that was when I was diagnosed with my Illness and I got in a State I would not take them long as they made me feel horrible I had no control. Now I would never be aloud to as I stop breathing in my Sleep so it is a risk but I would never take them again anyway

Sorry for your illness. Sounds like your doctors are making sure you manage. No, I do not take sleeping meds. I do make sure I avoid caffeine late in the day, I get good exercise, do not be around bright lights or computer monitor or tv too late. I sleep in a dark room that is not too warm. A hint I learned when working with the elderly, and it is something I do except when it is very hot, is to put soft warm socks on. Studies have shown that it increases the time and depth of sleep. I find it seems to helpme, as well. Sweeter dreams to you.
