I am so depressed

United States
August 4, 2007 2:00pm CST
I use to make 6K a month. I was an RN supervisor and I worked a lot of overtime. I became ill and I cannot work. I am making less than $1500 per month. My husband works two jobs one is full time the other part time job is 10 months out of the year. We barley squeak bye I do everything I can to save a dime here and a penny there. I have been doing a lot of research on the Internet on how to make money but everything promises a lot of money and costs money that I do not have. I came here to myLot; I am also doing some click programs. I am saving up so I can pay to get into some other programs hopefully to make some more money. In the mean time I was doing better, but now my health is starting to decline again, the frustrating part is doctors cannot tell me what is wrong. I have had one doctor tell me it is Menier's disease, and three tell me it is not. I have been to UCLA medical center, Stanford medical center and seen two specialists there; I have been to several specialists in our area and even up to University of San Francisco medical center but to no avail. Now where to go? I had to tell my husband we did not have enough money to pay our mortgage. We have to borrow money for that, I think we need to get a personal loan and pay off our last years taxes and get that monkey off our back also. I guess I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

So sorry to hear you're struggling so hard, physically and financially. I can sure relate. I was making darn good money before my Fibromyalgia and arthritis kicked in and now I can't work a regular job at all. My husband barely makes above minimum wage and good paying jobs around here are scarce. So we struggle every month and basically live paycheck to paycheck, all our savings is gone and we're in debt up to our eyeballs from having to put necessities on the credit card and hospital bills after my husband ended up in the hospital for an emergency angioplasty last November. If it wasn't for my mom and stepdad helping us out we would have a hard time buying groceries. It gets very depressing and frustrating struggling all the time, let alone being sick all the time. We do what we can and live day to day as happily as possible and things keep getting in the way. I hope you can find a doctor who can diagnose your problem and treat it. (((hugs)))

I am so sorry to hear that you are having so many problems! It's horrible not being able to work! The job that I'm missing right now wasn't anywhere near as good as the one you had, but I'm missing it just the same, so I know how you feel! I have the same problem with the online stuff, so much of it requires money to get into, and I just don't have the money in the first place! And with the things that cost money, it's so hard to tell which ones are real and which are scams! I do hope that you find some programs that work for you! The health stuff is very frustrating... it's so hard when you don't have a firm diagnosis, because then how are you going to get treatment and get better? It sounds like you've been to a lot of different places, and still come up with nothing. I wish there were something I could say to make it better, but I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you! =)

Hi That sounds pretty dire, and if I may say so, the idea of borrowing to 'pay off' those kind of payments is not a good idea in the long term (you know this I'm sure, but sometimes these things need spelling out). One of the hardest things about your situation is that you are probably in the habit of spending your old income even though your new one does not match it. Addressing this inbalance is vital for your future financial and physical well-being. I wrote a squidoo lens on the subject 'the quickest way the make money' - the truth is that the quickest way to MAKE money is to SAVE money... You can read the lens here for what it's worth, maybe something there will help you: http://www.squidoo.com/makingmoneyquickly/ I think a lot of people look for extra income without thinking how they can plug the holes to stop their existing income from leaking away..

I hope you are able to get on top of things - I'm sure that you will benefit physically if you can address those things that are affecting your finances.

Hi, sorry things are not going to well for you. I do understand where as I have never made big money and I consider your former salary big money. I have found that we get accustomed to living on what we make. For myself the most money I have ever earned is 11 dollars an hour. so i never had a lot of stuff, car, big TV,cell phone, etc. so i do not miss them now that I an on a disability pension, which comes to $850 per month, My budget is as follows : mortgage $306 strata fees $154 Cable Bill(INTERNET, phone TV) $139 Hydro $30 Life insurance $10 and property tax $40 $75 Visa That comes to $744 and then there is food, and transportation, as well as prescriptions and all the other stuff I need. It is a very tight budget but I can and do live on it. If your disability becomes permanent, you may have to look at down sizing, but until you know try to keep up your payments even if it is only the interest, Talk to all the people you owe money to and see if they will lower your payments for the time being. a lot of banks and credit card companies will be more than happy to do that as they do not want to have to deal with a delinquent account and nor do you. I hope every thing works out for you Robin

I am not sure about if your employer, has disability insurance or did you belong to a union? If You were a RN Supervisor there should have been some sort of benefit package with your employer, have you checked into that? I know in Canada the nurses have coverage up the yin yang, as most of them become ill due to stress or caring for people that have caused them to injure them selves,Of course these same nurses pay a fortune in union dues so they should have excellent coverage, I do hope things turn around for you soon, this is a terrible place to be in, Take care.

I do not own many credit cards that I have a balance on execpt three. The problem is our area the housing market has depressed. We now owe more than what the house is worth. I want to wait until the housing market goes up again then sell. We can down size then. I will think seriously pull out my retirement. I was waiting until it built up some but we need it now. I think I can draw a little out a month for about the nest 30 years. I am totally disabled and am on social security.

Being a supervisor I was not able to be a member a of the union. The union rules where anyone who did the hiring or firing could not be a member of the union. I did both. I am in the USA and I have been off for two years now. I do not like it at all. I wish I could work.

I have only one piece of advice for you, it is all you need. When you get tired of looking around, look up. He is so much help for his children when they are in trouble. You have to trust God when you have these kind of problems. It breaks my heart to hear this, please look to Jesus. It took me a long time to understand what it meant when the Bible says to cast your cares on him. This is the way I pray when I get in a situation like that. Heavenly father, you know what I am going through. You told me to cast my cares on you because you care for me. Lord there is no need for me to try to figure this one out, because I can't. This one is beyond me and if you don't move on my behalf, nothing will be done. If fact, this is not my problem anyway Lord, you said in your word that the battle is not mine, it is yours, so I will leave this problem here with you and go forward. And you know what I do, I leave it there and I don't worry about it any more. I go on like I don't have a problem in the world. I don't let problems steal my joy any longer. I am going to keep smiling and know that God is going to work it out. Leave it alone, stop fretting about it. Give it to him in faith and let it go. That is what he is waiting for. You can not do anything in your own strength anyway, so why worry about it. Say in the name of Jesus I am healed, in the name of Jesus my bills are paid, in the name of Jesus everything that is happening right now is working together for my good. In Jesus name, rise up and go on.

Don't feel bad, I have a problem with patience too. At first I had to work on my faith, now all I find myself thinking is when Lord when. But he knows what we need even before we ask him. His timing is perfect, so we have to trust in that too. With God, it is never to late.

Talking of depression..............i got a lot. There are lots of depression in life. I got my first depression when i was in my 3rd year in college and my father abandoned us without saying anything so i need to quit schooling. My next depression was..............we can't eat 3 times a day........i can see my sisters and brother keeps on crying while my mother was in real depression. ANother depression was when my husband abandoned me and my daughter without saying anything too and run away with my cousin. Another depression was when my husband wanted to get may daughter so he brive my daughter just to leave me too. They wanted me to become crazy. He told my daughter to put that sleeping pills on my coffee so i got asleep and when i woke up the door is open, the gate is open and nobody in the home while i was sleeping............so PAINFUL.........have you ever experienced that in your life . thank you for my faith.

What is frustrating, when I had money I gave it out to friends who needed it. I have lent in to people and have never been paid back. I even have lent money to my daughter and have asked her twice for the money. She can pay me back but has turned out to not care to pay me back. I will not lend her money again. I do not know if it is the attitude of her hubby and his family that is infulancing her or it is just her.

Most time, its my work..with ontime deliveries and work loads. I try to divert mind on music and i feel better. We need to manage depression, as it is part of life in busy world. But if we concentrate, we can manage it. I does it through my yoga, listening music and going out on vacation.

By the way, can I know where are you living now? In a serious financial situation like you are facing now, I suggest that you make a sacrifice. This is for short term only, and I hope you can bare the uncomfortable effects from doing this. If you have your own house, I suggest you sell it. Housing property has an increasing price value, and will never go down. It will only go up. So by selling your house you will get double the money you have spent when you first purchased it. Pay the rest of the morgage of your house, and use the balance to buy another low cost house (by cash, if possible). After that you will no longer have to worry about paying for your house to the bank, and this saves a lot of money and you can use it for your medical purposes. I hope this makes you relieved a little. God bless you. I pray that you will get well soon. Don't worry.
