Class Action Lawsuit Against Pet Food Companies

I had done a discussion about my rage that so many months have gone by, and all the news we had been hearing about the pet food recall had died down, and I wanted to know what, if any action has been really taking place against the pet food companies that in many ways, knowingly poisoned pets with their pet foods...yes, they did know months and months prior to the official recall of pet food manufactured by Menu Foods, and other related companies.
I was just hunting around and there is a major class action lawsuit, that supposedly not only covers the tragedy of what occurred around March of this year, but what continues to occur in the pet food manufacturing business...And this was even more disgusting to read about, as it even pertains to the "safe" non-recalled foods, manufactured by Mars, Inc., Proctor and Gamble Co., Colgate Palmolive Company, Del Monte Foods, Co., and Nestle U.S.A--as a btw...Nestle is the manufacturer behind Purina!
Besides wanting to sue these companies for the past tragedy of the recent pet food recall it also wants to sue, on plain principle that the pet food companies are fooling pet owning consumers to think that the ingredients are wholesome and natural. Well read this list from this article..It'll make your stomach turn.
And I quote:
..."The Plaintiffs maintain that these companies have spent $300 million a year in making false and misleading marketing statements regarding the contents of their pet food to the dog and cat loving American public. While these Defendants tout their pet food products as choice cuts of prime beef, chunks of chicken, fish, fresh wholesome vegetables and whole grains to induce consumers to buy them, the Plaintiffs contend the food is actually made from "inedible" slaughterhouse waste products of the human food chain such as spines, heads, tails, hooves, hair, and blood. Rendering companies who process this waste have also added other inedible "waste" such as euthanized cats and dogs from veterinarian offices and animal shelters, road kill, zoo animals, rancid restaurant grease, toxic chemicals and additives. Additionally, dead animals and those declared unfit for human consumption due to disease and illness are also placed in the mix...."
When I read this it was like...holy crap!

There's even a link on how one can join this lawsuit..the article is dated from May, but I see no reason for not getting somehow involved even now.

Wowie! Certainly glad I have made the decision to prepare my cats' meals for them instead of buying already prepared foods. I had no clue that companies were placing such things into the pet food. Maybe that's why my cats were constantly throwing up what they had just ate. Was their way of saying "Mom we need better food!"

I cook up some chicken, liver, and some rice. I than mix it together with some vitamins that were recommended to me by my vet, and they just love it. If I have some extra money to spare I will get them some crab and fish as a really special meal.
The Cat-Lovers' Cookbook is a really neat cookbook, it has specially designed meals and treats that you can prepare for your cat. It comes in handy when my little darlings are wanting something different to eat.

What do you feed your cats? My pampered brats are so used to Fancy Feast..but they don't throw up hardly at all...so maybe it's not too bad after all--but would like to know what you give your kitties

One of the problems is that my two pampered babes don't seem to care for "people" food...When I used to have a lot of cats, they'd literally eat anything...I used to cook up a cat's version of chicken soup..the chicken, broth, veggies, rice..the works..they loved it...Now..nope...even if I open up a can of people tuna..albacore yet, they turn their noses at it...Any suggestions how I can get these two used to it again?--that it home cooked food?

Well it's about darned time that something was done to make those companies own up to their faults in all of this. I mean, for crying out loud, how many unnecessary deaths of people's beloved pets have occurred because of the carelessness of those companies? Too many! I really hope that this law suit brings those companies to their collective knees, and makes them pay (literally, as well as figuratively) for what they have done. Thank you so much for sharing this hon. My heart is with you and all of the other pet owners that have suffered losses because of this.

Well thank goodness I didn't lose any of my fur babies due to the pet food recall, but I did sign up to join the lawsuit since when I read the ingredients that is often contained in even the other foods I realized I had to sign up...my cats eat Fancy Feast which is made by Nestle which makes all Purina products...but they are one of the companies that use those disgusting ingredients that I listed above

To Katlady---I'm so sorry to hear about Meg..I just bet a lot of pet owners suffered the loss of a pet even long before the "official" recall and just thought that their pet was suffering health problems for other "natural" reasons, never suspecting that it could have been the food they were giving their pets. It couldn't hurt to sign up...give it a go!!

Anyone can join who has proof of money spending in petco and petmart or any other animal food chain store. Many have it on bank statements.

That could be a problem if one just threw away receipts though...bank statements are different, but if someone paid cash, it's so easy just to throw the receipts out

Thats terrible, I wonder if there are any federal laws pertaining to the pet food industry. Since animals are for the most part subject to the same illnesses as humans it would seem appropriate that their food was screened the same as ours. I don't understand how this industry got so out of hand.

As far as I know, pet food isn't regulated by the FDA--maybe it should now

It's a very good move they are making with this lawsuit, pyewacket. This situation is deplorable. Where are these people's ethics and morals? Everything is about greed for some people. I hope that they have to pay through the nose for their misdeeds. It can really turn your stomach to hear of things like this.

We were really scared for our cats when all that happened. Thank God we were lucky, and our cats are still alive. I can't belive how these companys have no heart, and don't care. The almighty buck at work. I was shocked when I read what they really put in our pet food. It turned my stomach. I would love to make food for our cats, but they are not much for people food. There are only a few things they like. Like tuna fish, liverwurst & a few other things. Now this makes me wonder what is in our pets Treats as well. How dare they charge us so much money for a bag of garbage, and then try to call it healthy for our pets or new and improved and all that. They need to step up their game and relize that pets are human to, and need good food just as we do.
