Another dream shattered.....

I had thought about doing something with my life. I am limited due to health issues. Plus I have a special needs child.
I was thinking about it and I realized that I wanted to work with babies. So I started thinking of what I could do. I thought about being a doula, or a midwife or at least a lactation consultant.
A myLotter was nice enough to give me info on an online course for being a midwife. That was the first dream shattered. NO way I could pay for it.
Today I looked into being a lactation consultant. Next dream crushed. To be an International Certified Lactation Consultant; I need to have a degree in a medical field just to take the course. Well I don't have a college education at all. There goes another one.
And heck if I was going to get a degree in medicine; then I wouldn't be looking into these other options!
**sigh** I'm afraid to look into being a doula. Afraid to have that hope crushed too. **sigh**

Have you tried La Leche League? They have a peer counseling program that you may qualify for.

Yeah I just contacted them the other day. I am waiting for a reply to my reply to them.
Thanks for the suggestion!

You should check into financial aid. And, if the program you found doesn't qualify, keep looking. There is always a way if you keep at it and keep trying.

You are right. I am just so mentally and physically drained right now that I just can't do all that. Maybe in the future.

I know when our hopes get crushed it's a hard blow to take, but don't get yourself too far down. There has to be something out there for you, it's just going to take time for you to find it. Keep looking and keep thinking, it will happen.

Why don't you start or work with a group of parents of special needs children--especially those with the same or similar special needs? Reach out in your own area to see what is or isn't there and either join or start something. Perhaps you could use your skills and creativity in clay to support it, or combine with it someway. That precious little baby pin you made, for instance. Maybe you could teach special needs kids to work with clay and have classes. Or get the mothers together and teach them to work with clay and sell the stuff you make, etc. Just tossing out ideas, here. Get together with someone and brainstorm. Don't discard even the silliest ideas--they might lead to something. You may not have formal education, but you have experience in the special needs area. Someone should be able to put that to good use! Pray about it too, if you are inclined, see what God has to say. He knows where you are needed--where your particular talents would be put to best use! Good luck and God bless.
