I finally had to go to the emergency room after 12 days of it itching and spreading. They gave me a RX for prednisone (spelling?)
aNY WAY ITS A STEROID TWO TABLETS FOR 5 DAYS....
It dried it up within 2 days and the Dr. told me that a rinse of bleach and water immediately after coming in with contact of poison ivy will kill the oils and stop it from spreading.
Well I didn't know this before the ER visit!
(OMG how I wish I did! It would of saved me hundreds of dollars)
So what I did yesterday after the 12 days of itching, spreading and prescription was I came in contact with it again!!!
DUE to the fact that I have been doing landscaping at my late grampa's house and I just had to do uit for family sake.
(he passed away in march)
His house is ready to sell and we had to get the yard in shape to make it desirable.
So I dressed properly (jeans work boots and a tee shirt and gloves.
the only area exposed was from my wrist to elbows.
(It was too darn hot to wear a long sleeve shirt.)
Any way the reason I started this discussion is to help people like me that are also allergic to the ivy.
AS soon as you know you have come in contact with the leaves take some CLOROX cleanup and
spray it all over the infected area
Rub in the clorox cleanup well and then rinse in cool water.
TRUST me!
My last out break cost me about 200 dollars!

Wow I'm sorry you had to go through such an ordeal. I hope you will feel really better soon. Thanks for the heads up on the remedy! I don't have health insurance so anything helps. I'm big on home remedies, as they really do work.

Grats on getting it taken care of albiet it a little late. But the bleach etc counds like it would work. One thing though, Seeing you know your allergy to poison ivy and I am sure you know what it looks like avoid it at all costs. Wear leather work gloves, long sleeves, and long pants if you have to work around it anymore.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANPA BOB !!~
