We have planters on many corners. Over the years a variety of things have been planted in the planters, including petunias. When hybrid petunias go to seed, they produce the plain old fashioned white, lavender, and lilac single flowers, and I noticed ten years ago that one had. The seed scattered. Every year there was one or two petunia plants growing from the cracks in the sidewalk. I noticed this year they are everywhere, for about a two block area, in every little crack of dirt that could hold a seed. Most businesses let them grow, with their joyousness and simpleness. A few places have obviously tried to kill them out. Is your life like that, persistent, and joyous? Do you have any stories about plants self seeding, and growing wild?

I wouldn't say my life is persistant & joyous at the moment, far from it in fact.
In respect to town gardens, yes, it is always pleasant & a source of pride, to see town areas look attractive.
I would say Adelaide does quite well in this regard. We have many attractive parks & gardens. The councils plant flowers & native shrubs on just about every roundabout in existance.

Our town recently installed three "islands" down the centre of our main street. Although it looks nice with all the flowers, trees and shrubbery, as well as a water fountain and benches for sitting on, it takes up a lot of space. We have one lane of traffic going in each direction and parking on both sides of the road. This means a) emergency vehicles will have a heck of a time getting through traffic, and b) major snowstorms can be a problem when removing snow. The street did have to be shut down last winter because of this. As pretty as it is, it is not very practical. We live in a small town (26,000) who want to keep the quaintness of the old town charm but now they want to remove parking lots in favour of condominiums.
And yes, our little essence of eden has been vandalized with flower pots being knocked over and the cement walls of the raised gardens covered in spray paint, and the water fall being filled with soap - bubbles everywhere! Seems the kids in this town don't have enough to do.
So although this is a manmade structure of beauty, it is growing wild for it is not practical and is a target for vandals.
