Why?

Okay it's time for me to whine or rant if you will about the "quality" of discussions I have been getting in my emails as of late. Why do so many members start a discussion asking a question then don't offer an answer or opinion of their own at the same time? Is that not one way of adding "quality" to our discussions? Also why do even the old timers here still add and start discussions about other sites for money making and add their referral links which is a violation of the guidelines? I do not like seeing these as they will get reported by someone and many that respond as well as the poster will lose points and earnings. Why are there still so many one liners still going around after all the deletions as of late also? Come on members get with the program. Another is the fact so many NEVER respond to their friends discussions. I have one friend that starts abiout 10 discussions a day ands so far has responded to just 4 individual discussions. Why can't members read the guidelines thoroughly so as to avoid the deleted discussions etc? Just my time to whine I guess. I do not respond to these stated discussions as I like my points and earnings to stay where I expect them to be. Anyhow thanks for the whinetime. HAHAHAHA!1 HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Coming from another "old timer"...lol....you sound a lot like me! I think I've started a few discussion on just this subject. Only you put it so much more eloquently than I do! I have noticed some members who should know better doing the "looking for referrals" thing and I figured their thinking if you can't beat them join them. I don't bother with referrals. I got one and he's a dud. So that was no big deal to me. If it wasn't that he asked I wouldn't have bothered. I never respond to those discussions either and don't know when people will figure out that most readers won't. Great discussion Grandpa Bob!

Hey, your whine taught me things! I am new and wonder why I only have 9 rep. I saw some of the things you mentioned and wonder if I was involved in a discussion and lost points. I sure never did any of what you said but I may have answered a discussion that had referral codes in it saying they shouldn't post referral codes! I agree that many discussion are one line things and I don't often understand what they are even about so I steer clear of those. I also know a lot of people who don't answer their own discussions and it sort of ticks me off. You started it, why not stay involved? Being so new, I am learning but I have enough common sense to know how to communicate and be polite even when disagreeing with a point made. Anyway, thanks for the whine. I would give you some cheese with it but that's bad for our cholesterol. lol lol. Seriously, you taught me some things I didn't know and I appreciated the post.

Send the cheese. I have high cholesterol and am on Lipitor so it wont raise mine. HAHAHA! Welcome and keep away from those discussions that are a possible violation so as not to lose points/earnings. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ (SEND A FRIENDS REQUEST IF YOU'D LIKE THAT IS)

Iagree completely with all of this Bob. I am receiving a lot of My Lot notifications with one liners. These people just write one line only, no intersting comments, no views, no questions, no link & no photos. I am fairly sure these are people who just want to earn a quick buck, by getting one response. And yes, your other comment about people who never respond is very valid too. I am going to have to find time to go through my friends list again, & delete people who have never responded. At least that way, I wont be receiving their boring discussions in notificationsd. Good on you for making thse comments. Jenny

Earn a quick buck? Even with photos comments and responses that takes a few hours easily unless you've many active members signed under you. HAHAHAHA! I spend 10 hours and earn a buck if I am lucky. Hahaha!! I too am wanting to go through my list but it's hard to delete people I think. it is for me anyhow. Ugg!! Thanks for the input as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I really dont know why people do this..Its a bit discouraging though when the old users of mylot do puit in referral links, you would think that they know better and when they get deleted they whinge about it...But I suppose there are 50 thousand discussions on here with referral links and they are not dleted so I think that they post them also thinking why not..if everyone else can do it.

I chuckled when one of these "old timers" started a discussion recently complaining about this very issue. (The embedding of referrals in posts, and such.) He/she then closed by asking that readers visit his/her blog (a link was provided); to peruse the many money-making links there; to, well, make a buck. It came off as, "Your spam is spam! My spam is...humanitarianism!"

You're questions grandpa, are as the same as mine. I see lots of members here who still continue posting discussions that are against the guidelines, yet they seek for answers why it got deleted. But if you'd give them advice, they'll tell you that they have read the guidelines. Duh?! If people read these, then they know that posting links (referral), jokes, recipes and milestones, are on the DON'Ts of the guidelines. As for those discussions with one-liners, I don't read andnor respond to them because I know it'll just mess my ratings here and affect my reputation. Like you, I don't like members who floods their friends with discussions, yet they don't even put a comment on it or even respond to some of them in-return. It makes me think that they just posted it not because they want to discuss and talk about it, but maybe for having themselves an easier means of earning here. I always delete them on my list, especially those who think they know everything. As of now, I have two consecutive pages of UNcommented responses. That's two days in-a-row, I think.

Both of us must have the same member that posts large numbers of questions in a day and doesn't respond to other members. I'm ready to reduce my friends list, as I don't like one line questions with no input from the member. What is the point of posting that kind of question? I can't understand and feel the other person isn't thinking just wasting my time.

It's OK Grandpa Bob - I feel exactly the same frustration - I just don't let it get to me anymore. Time was, when I could check my emails in the morning, and there would be loads of long, detailed, interesting, and worthwhile discussions to read and respond to. MyLot paid people well as long as their content, and quality was good, and the site was extremely high quality. Now it's all daft one-liners, bad spelling, bad grammar, and those endless referral links tellng us how to earn a few pennies here or there by joining some wonderful new programme!!! I think it's sad that all the good, old, quality posters have gone, and I'm sorry that I have no solution for you.

Hi and thanks. No I haven't been around so much - work has been hectic, and, as you say, the quality has been so poor here lately it hasn't been worth the effort. Glad to see you're still here though:-)) Take care!

so the old timers post referral links too? I don't notice that. mostly they are newbies. but maybe I missed these ones you mentioned. One liners I haven't seen them lately either. I responded mostly my friends' discussions and they are mostly old timers.

Ah! That is my BIGGEST hatred! That people start a discussion and ask a question and never put in their own answer. I don't understand the point of that at all! Most of the time if I do answer it I ask their opinion on that matter! I don't even respond to referral and money earning type discussions. Typically I also have a tendency to completely ignore one liners. I've deleted a few of my "friends" due to the fact that their discussions are always just one liners. Also, I think about that sometimes as well. Granted, I don't start discussions that often because, well I just don't. I like responding to discussions and for the most part I respond to all of my friends discussions (unless they are one liners or I have no input because it's about coffee which I don't drink or something like that) and then I realize that they never once have ever responded to my discussions. Sometimes people just think about themselves or think they can earn money for nothing on the internet and use this as one of those places. Eventually they'll realize what they're doing isn't working... hopefully.

I can understand when one doesn't answer their own question in their discussions. But when they add comments the ones that still don't is what ticks me off the most. I ignore ALL one liners as well due to the way one can lose a lot if they respond to a lot of them especially with the same one liner responses. HAHAHA!! It will be a long long time till we see this site cleared of all this type of people. But maybe it will slow down soon for our benefit huh? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I think these people will be around so long as there are places to make money on the internet where people think they can easily 'get rich quick'. They'll try their best to cheat their way to quick richness. Maybe if mylot told you how you earn money, they'd there would be a little less doing the wrong things, but that won't be happening.

Hello my friend, You have written about only one side of the coin, have you thought of the following; * There are chances of discussion starter's opinion affecting the responder's opinion, the responder may hide his original thoughts and respond in the favour of the author, just to make 2 cents. * There is no rule/guideline so as to force ourselves to respond to our friends' discussions. Infact, you have'nt yet responded to any of my discussions but i've done to two of yours. similiarly, there are friends whom i've not responded to, but they are responding to me. Each person should be let free, no force please. You can respond to whichever discussion you feel like, even if you don't respond to mine, it won't matter in our friendship, you'll still be my friend. Hope everything goes fine with you. Happy postings to you too.

OMG--- you read my mind- I am constantly saying this is so wrong- or how do you feel or what are your thoughts- Stop asking me for mine when you don't give yours?? It is the money Grandpa Bob- that is it- they only post and post hoping more people answer them and they get more $$- I have started deleting those discussions when they only ask and don't say what they are thinking- they are the same ones who don't comment after you have given your answer- I'm whining now too aren't I?? More like bicching!

Did you have some good cheese to go with that whine? LOL Just kidding hon. I feel the same way you do. It would be nice if people here got with the program for a change, and it would also be nice if the rules that applied to certain discussions being deleted applied to everyone. Maybe I shouldn't be putting it that way, but sometimes I feel that that's the way it is. I'll take some good colby jack cheese with MY whine thankyou. LOL

I agree with you that there are just too many of the low quality "discussions" going on, and not enough of the real ones. I guess that all we can do is to ignore the ones that violate the guidelines. I don't see much sense in wasting my time responding my time responding to these types of discussions since they are probably going to be deleted anyway.

Hi Grandpa Bob, I agree with you. Why start a discussion with a question but not put your views in to start it off? I have noticed alot of people don't reply to the responder. After all I thought this was a discussion forum not a yes or no forum. Everyone complains about the guidelines only after they have made a mistake. Look first then type.
