We're thinking about doing some home remodeling. It's been almost four years since we moved in, so remodeling is well past due. And, one of my biggest pet peeves in our house turns out to be my cabinets. Personally, I never liked the way they looked. The person that lived here before painted them a stark white color and now there is no getting rid of it.
So, I was wondering, what would you rather do if you simply disliked your cabinets. Would you have someone come in and take out the old cabinets for new ones? Would you have your current cabinets refaced and new doors put on them? Or, would you simply repaint your existing cabinets to freshen up the look of your kitchen? Just pretend for a minute that you're not on a budget! I wish I could.

I'm going through this right now- I too hate my cupboards- They used to be gorgeous cherry wood- and the owners prior to us painted them antique white and stenciled them- YUK! My good friend works in the wood- and he totally redid his kitchen- new cupboards and everything his gramps has all the tools to make cabinets- He just told me a few days ago he is starting mine this winter!! I'm so happy- My sig. other built his garage and his basement for his new house- he is a mason- so this is repayment! So personally I'd rip them out and start over!

Wow! You are so lucky. I wish I had a good friend in my back pocket. Or, at least one who felt he owed me a favor. That is too cool. Good for you. I will most likely have to do my own cabinets.

Like you, I wish money was not an issue, I would love to extend my kitchen to make it bigger than change the whole thing. Since money is an issue, I would like to sand my cabinets and paint the, they are just stained wood, as they have been for the 9 years we've lived here, it's really time to do something, we just can't seem to get around to doing it. I still can't decide what color I would like them, I had thought about painting the kitchen a burgundy color and the cabinets white or a cream color. Maybe one day it'll happen. Let us know what you decide to do.

If there is something wrong other than the color, if they are too narrow, too high, then I would say get rid of them. Get an estimate from the kitchen cabinet makers in your town or city and get the best one. IF it is just the color, you can either repaint them or you can get new doors. Sears does a good job.
