Trauma from Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis

As most know I drive to get my wife every night except Sundays the day she has off. She does not drive & rides the bus to work. Just out of curiosity we counted the number of bridges that we cross & go under from her work to our house. I counted 48 of them. Now granted I do drive through downtown so that's the reason for so many actually. But it got me to thinking of the safety of these bridges after the collapse August 1st. My wife hates bridges as it was before the collapse now she is even more frightened. So anyhow in a round trip to get here & come home I have to cross or go under a total of 92. That's due to a couple I cross only going in & not coming home. So do you know how many bridges you cross or go under in your trip to work etc? It's scary thinking of the amount I cross each day.

Well, its was a truama for even, im from the Philippines and I look highly of things from the U.S. and even infrastructure made in the U.S, there were a lot of questions that opened with that incident. So I cant blame your wife for feeling afraid when it comes to bridges.

Now there's questions about the deicing system that was used
on the bridge during the winters. They think it may have helped
to corrode the bridges stability. Ugghh!

We have an underground system that is tubed through the pavement
and squirts up onto the pavement so yes it is possible.

Well I am lucky cos my work is only a few minutes away and there are no bridges - my other half though crosses about 25 each way although most of them are very small and not very high! I can understand why you would be nervous though Grandpa Bob and I do hope things get better for you all! I was reading in a Scottish paper yesterday that they are now trying to blame the collapse on bird poo of all things! xxx

A lot of the ones I cross or go under are also small. But still a bridge none the less. I even counted the pedestrian bridges across the highway. They aren't as heavy but still a bridge. There are 5 of thos I go under. That,s been around since before the collapse actually. the UofM actually did a study on the corrisive actions of bird poop on the bridges & it does affect the structure. but it would take many many years and hundreds of thousands of pounds of bird poop to make as bridge that size collapse. HAHAHA!!

I rarely cross bridges, but my husband works downtown, so he crosses a bridge everyday.
There aren't very many bridges in the city itself - just if you want to go downtown or leave the city to go to another city.
And actually, from our side, you can get downtown without crossing any bridges, although you go under an overpass.
It is a bit scary to think of.

I do not like driving under or over Bridges I never have done as that what happened on the 1st August is something I always fear and always have done
It was terrible what happened there it really was
Fortunately I do not have to go under any Bridges unless I am on the Motorway

That is too much bridge Grandpa Bob! wow! As for me, I only cross one bridge in going to and from work and its just a 30-meter bridge and nothing much compared to the bridge that collapsed in your state. i would hate it too if I am in your wife's shoes. I guess it is just one of those things that one has to learn to live with in ones hometown.

I live 14 miles from my wifes work. Ans most these bridges are in a 5 mile stretch through the downtowns edges. Still it is a lot. I am glad Minneapolis isn't that big of a city though. That would just mean more bridges for me to cross etc. Ugghh!!

I go walking each day with my friend and we cross under quite a number of bridges on our little journey. We have never spoken about it but i admit it crosses my mind as we are under....What if? I say a silent prayer and speed up my step a bit. The other day we were crossing under one and we noticed the traffic was being detoured. Why? They were working on the bridge! We were half way under it when we realized but this time we did talk about it. Minneapolis is still very fresh in our minds!

I used the bridge that collapsed a lot also. I had never thought of any of these bridges on my trip to get the wife and come home collpasing. But since the collapse it's on my mind every single time i go over or under a bridge. Someday I may get over it I hope.

Our state got busy inspecting bridges after the collapse. They completely shut down one in Wichita that had steel reinforcement rods visible underneath. I have been frightened of bridges in the past, but I just do not think about it. Of course the little town I live in has nothing to compare to that.

Very few thankfully- I live in the country and take mostly back roads to work- there is maybe 1 bridge- When I shop in the city- there are a lot more bridges- It is scary- but then again so are a lot of things- I am not going to stop crossing them- that would mean I would have to stop driving- flying- eating. Etc. I heard they are checking all bridges in this area- after this incident- I would hope that this sad-horrific incident has made all cities and states more cautious and check their bridges.

This is a very scary feeling. I guess I would say try not to think of it too much if you can, as it will only make you feel bad and afraid. Statistically speaking, the chances of this happening to you are very slim. Just try to keep your thoughts positive so you won't worry too much.

I'd never survive out there. I hate bridges and we have very few out here. There's only one that we need to cross and that's only if we want to go to the city east of us which we do maybe once in two years. That bridge collapse in Minneapolis is enough to scare the wits out of anyone. I still think that should have been able to be avoided, but I'm no expert I know... Take Care !!!

Right now, I don't cross under or over any bridges in the immediate vicinity of Fort Bragg. Back home depending upon the route, I could run into a few or several overpasses or bridges. On my way home to visit, I go over several bridges going through Georgia and North Florida. I hate bridges and they scare the bejeezus out of me! I have had dreams about falling off of bridges,d riving off of bridges, bridges collapsing and so on. So I am deathly afraid of them. I cringe every time I ahve to drive over one. Especially when they are very long and extend over a great body of water!

We have very little bridges here in our town and the ones we have are over small creeks. We have one creek that goes through our town so if you go from north to south in our town you have to cross the creek. Other then that we have the over pass to highway 99 which is only a few under passes or over passes.

wow 48 is a lot of bridges to cross. I take public transport to work so it's a mass rapid transit train system so you could either see it as I don't go over any bridges, or as I am on a bridge for more than half of the journey (it's one of those overhead sky train things) and the rest underground.
Every mode of transport and surface has it's dangers, so don't worry since no one can add a day to his life by worrying!
If our time comes, our time comes. :)
