Extra Garage

I live in an apartment, so I don't have a garage. But if I did, I might want to park my car in it. But some people have car ports, and some even have a 3 car garage, so you could use some space for the cars, and the rest for something else. So what I ask, is if there was an extra garage at your place, or if you didn't use the garage for parking cars in the first place, what would you do with that space? Would you turn it into an apartment? Maybe an exercise room? I think I'd make into some kind of place to relax or meditate. A lot of peaceful colors, aromatherapy candles, with a stove for making tea. Probably one of those zero gravity chairs so someone could compltely relax. What would you do with this extra space?

I would make an exercise room out of it. I have equipment and that would really suit me. One great room to sweat in.

I live in an apartment too, but if I had a garage and had that available space to me...well at first, I was going to jump into the idea that you had..to make it sort of a meditative area and what you described was picture perfect ideal....ah but then the practical me came through...I would turn it into a completely functional and LARGE darkroom--since I'm still a 35mm film photographer, and I do, do develop film and prints, I can think of nothing better than a darkroom for myself, instead of what I have now...I transform my kitchen into a darkroom, and my kitchen is so small and claustrophobic!!

A darkroom, that's very original. Yeah, it's practical too, but I can't imagine how hard it is to make due with an apartment kitchen!

Hehe--it used to be worse--when I first started getting involved with darkroom work, I used to use the bathroom! Yikes

No such thing as extra space, I would fill it with something before my hubby or other family members did.LOL. I like the idea of an exercise room, maybe with a little shower. Yes, to the muted relaxing colors, and aromatherapy. I could go for it right now.

Well AmbiePam I think that if I had extra space in a garage I might make it a play room so when I want to get the house clean I have a place out of the house to send my daughter when she's older (she's only 15 months right now). OR I would make it a room where one half is my hubbys to do his car models, display all of his models or Hot Wheels or whatever he wanted to use it for. My half would either be used as a place to do my painting, display my Care Bears, or as my own personal space that I can go to and read or think! My parents live in Arizona, and because their house doesn't have a basement they store stuff that usually gets shoved in the basement lol. They also store their deep freeze in there so it doesn't take up extra space in the kitchen! Good Post!

I would like an exercise room. As of right now, our exercise equipment will have to be in the basement, but I hate to take up space there. My husband has a pool table, so it might be nice to have a game room/exercise room. Or, I could just have an exercise room and stick him and his pool table in a storage building.:P

In my parents case, it is my mom who brings the clutter. I think my dad would love to do the same thing to her stuff as you want to do with your husbands. Doesn't sound like a bad idea!

I would turn it into a workshop. I like to do stain glass but do not have a place to do it.

I would turn it into a guest room. We have a 3 bedroom home and use the extra rooms for a computer room/office and the other has a bed for grandkids who sleep over. This room serves also as storage. I would also like to put some exercise equipment in the garage so that I can actually use it for exercise rather than a coat rack.

I would probably turn it into an exercise room, or a storage room to put extra stuff in.

I'd turn into MY own special place. It would be used for quiet times like praying and reading. It would also be used for a Art area since I like to draw, paint, sew, and be crafty!!!

You could really use it. The problem is that you are so in demand with your entire family. I mean when there is a crisis in your house or your parents, they get you. Make me want to get a sitter for the girls and have a pampering day. It would help if I had the money to do it. Maybe we can just throw oatmeal on our faces and call it a day.

If I have that extra capacity, I would convert it to a relax lounge. There would be a bar counter, a KTV set, a board game and perhaps a multi-purpose gym equipment. Of course, I might consider "renting" it out on hourly basis to generate some income. lol.

the garage's upstairs room - It wouldn't take much to turn this into an efficiency apartment.
We have an extra garage. It's shaped like a barn, and the upstairs has a bedroom, and a large room with a couch and a tv hooked up to a dvd player. I go watch movies there sometimes, and when we have parties, the guys usually hang out there. I'd like to have a hot tub there someday, and get some more plants. We have a lot of room now for company, but no one has stayed in the garage overnight yet.

Sounds like you have a head's up on the rest of us. That really sounds like an ideal situation. Very handy when the guys want to watch beat 'em up movies. : )

If I had a garage that sat empty in decent shape I would turn it into a studio for me to write and do my painting and other crafts. I would reclaim one of my bedrooms then instead of having to use it for the above activities.

Sounds like a good idea. I imagine a lot of people would find your idea a good one for themselves too.

In Bangalore city, to have a garage in a basemement, one should shell out the cost equivalent to the cost of a new car!!! I live in an independent own house and hence no problem for parking car. Thanks and have a nice time.
