Miss Teen South Carolina gives intensified meaning to all the dumb blond jokes. She is supposed to appear on the Today Show this morning and I wonder how she will explain this DUH! moment. Take a look at her intelligent response to the question!!

Her response had nothing to do with the question. She just stumbled and stumbled all over herself. I think they really caught her off guard.

Double Duh moment really. The question was why can't a 5th Americans find the US on a map. Of course her answer was just way out there, some how educating South Africans and "the" Iraq is the reason???
However the DJs were totally obsessed after hearing this with the fact she said "the Iraq"? LOL, I think it was a double whammy listening to that.

She's a kid. On stage in front of thousands. Being judged on her answer.
Could you do it? You think you could, but unless you've ever been in the situation, don't pretend you could do better.
I've done pageants and standing in front of all of those people who are just waiting on you, a 17 year old, to give a Miss America style response. Blunders are bound to happen. To display it for the whole world to see is just plain horrible. She's a KID for crying out loud. It should be illegal to post videos of people online who are under 18.
How would you feel if your daughter was defined by one bad answer?

Yeah, the rest of the girls did fine. The rest of the girls didn't flip out. Not everyone is the same. You're right, maybe pageants aren't up her alley. Maybe she isn't cut out to stand on stage and answer a question in front of thousands of people. But the fact that everyone is making fun of her is ridiculous. People make mistakes. I feel bad for the poor girl. I've gotten on stage and completely goofed up an on-stage question. I know how it feels.
The general idea of my point here is that people should give her a break. I despise how the world gets their jollies off of others' mistakes and pitfalls. Everyone has jumped on this whole thing like vultures. It's ridiculous, really. Get a life and stop trying to make someone else's miserable.

Yes I could. I have and I do not have the need to pretend. Non of the other contestants gave such a dumb answer. She obviously jumped at the chance for more exposure on the Today Show attempting to redeem herself and only made herself appear even dumber. My daughter would have had the intelligence to listen to the question and then respond. Which, by the way, the young lady admitted she did not really listen to.

mkirby,if she is old enough to strutt around in a skimpy bikini in front of millions she should be old enough to answer a simple question! Age us no excuse and like whiteheather said, the other girls were doing just fine.
If she gets so nervous that she can't even answer a simple question, then maybe peagents aren't up her alley. It takes more then looks to be a beauty queen, she seemed to have forgotten that.

Wow...That was painful to listen to. So the reason a 5th of "US Americans" (as opposed to the Canadian-Americans, who can be glad they aren't represented by her) can't find the US on a world map is because Osama and the US need to educate South Africans and people in "The Iraq"? How on earth did her brain even put any of that together.
I wonder if she can find the US on and US map!

When you put it that way it is really quite funny. Today on TV she said her parents had raised her well. No that any askedbout her parent but somewhere her schooling has been sadly neglected.

Beauty and brains don't mix too well, lol. It really is sad and makes me wonder if it is the kids or the teachers or maybe even the parents at fault here.

Oh good gosh. You act like because she gives a bad answer that she's a complete idiot. Yeah, her answer was nuts, but speaking in front of a large crowd is difficult, and to be asked a question that completely catches your off guard makes it even worse. No one is "at fault" here. This has nothing to do with teachers or parents, it has to do with her struggling to answer a questions in front of thousands of people that caught her off guard.

Mkirby all the contestants were asked questions and they all LISTENED to what was being asked and then answered appropriately. This young lady did not even feel it was necessary to even listen to the question and she admitted this today on the Today Show further proving to millions of people that she is not too swift. Actually she did a good job today on becoming the "poster child" for dumb blond jokes.

I saw a bit of that show, although not the question/answer part. The thing is, I think everyone has said stupid things in their life, or made grammatical errors. She isn't necessarily stupid, although she might not be cut out for things like pageants which require a person to be able to answer questions under stress.
But yeah, following it up with appearing on the Today Show was foolish. I'm sure she thought she could redeem herself, but...

I saw it on TV last night. It was like a switch went off on her brain, but no one told her mouth. I think she might have passed it off if she had left it with the mildly dumb statement that many people do not have maps, but the blithering on and on and on made me cringe. It is a serious question that has become a laughingstock because of her poor performance. She certainly is getting a lot of exposure out of it though.

I saw it on Glenn Beck earlier and just about fell off the couch laughing.
I love the excuse that the question threw her off. I mean, what kind of question did she expect?
If she wasn't paying attention to the question, like she said, then shame on her. If she wants to be a Miss America someday then she needs to learn to pay attention to people and stop being so self focused.

That's why they calls them "beauty" contests and not "intelligence" contests. Poor thing, she'll never be able to live this one down. Someone was seriously falling down on the job with her preparation.

Well that answer had absolutely nothing to do with what she was asked - I am not actually sure what question she was answering! One thing though was this perhaps her first paegant? Public speaking can be overwhelming for many people and perhaps she just got nervous? Just a thought! xxx
