We will soon have our traditional festival Mid-autumn Festival on the 15th of lunar August. It is a festival that family members gather together as that is considered the day when the moon is the most round. On that day we eat mooncakes under the moon to celebrate the festival.

How interesting willianjisir! I've never heard of this type of festival. If you have time to write back, I'd love to know where you're from, and what mooncakes are made of. Hope you had a wonderful time at the festival!

Thanks for letting me know! That sounds like such a wonderful time for the family. Those mooncakes sound really tasty, I hope I get to try some one day. I thought about them last night while I was enjoying looking up at the moon (it was sooooo white and clear and bright...just beautiful!)

I am from China and the mooncakes are usually made of flour and nuts of different kinds. Right now they are on sale in supermarkets. It has always been like this. I mean long before the Moon Festival, mooncakes will come to the market.

The state fair here in NM is in the town where I live which is Albuquerque. I haven't been to it since I got divorced some years ago. Being from Texas I was not very impressed by the state fair here in comparison to the Texas state fair. In fact the state fair here when I went was not much bigger than the county fair in my home town in Texas a very long time ago.

I haven't ever gotten to go to my state's fair (Ohio.) I've always just gone to our county's fair, which is very large. I know Ohio's state fair is huuuuuuge. For some reason I just always think of any state's fair as being very large, it's surprising that NM's isn't much bigger than the county fair in your home state. Boy...I'd LOVE to see the fair in Texas, I bet it's awesome!

Hi Polly! I won't be going this year either. Isn't it funny how as we get older we don't handle the heat (and for me, the walking) as well?! Hope you have a wonderful fall anyways:-)

Ours had a fair this year. We didn't go. I ran into a friend of mine who took her children and said it wasn't worth the money she spent. She also told me that it was very expensive too.

Yeah...I hear ya, and I have to agree with your friend! One part of me says 'oh, come on, this is ridiculous', and the other side thinks maybe the prices have to be so high to cover the insurance in case somebody gets hurt and sues. I guess I can see ride prices going up some too, everything seems to be going up with the cost of fuel. Sometimes I long for the days when I was a kid and going to the fair was inexpensive fun for the whole family. And now it's an arm and a leg just for the family to get in; then you add on the food, ride tickets, etc, etc, etc, and that day of fun becomes very pricey!

The state fair is in September, but it is about thirty miles away. We also have a Scottish Festival with Highland Games, and Dog Trials and other related things AND the same weekend we have a Museum Festival or something like that, on the grounds of the Museum, and people show old time homemaking skills like tanning, and rug hooking, and natural dyes, and childrens games and a velocipede. The latter two are local. Fall certainly gets busy around here.

That is just our little town. It seems like several craft fairs, etc go on at lots of small towns all within an hour or less of here. I believe that one town has "Another Blooming Festival" at some time, maybe that one is spring. LOL

We do not have a county fair in this small town. I moved here from a town that had a wonderful fall festival and I really do miss the fall festival. Fall is my favorite time of year with the crisp temperatures and beautiful colors. I love the wonderful fall produce and home canned products that were available. The scarecrow decorating contests and the other contests...great memories.

I think fall is my favorite time of the year too, for the same reasons that you mentioned. It's beautiful with all the changing trees, and the cool is such a relief from the heat of summer. Even without a local festival we can celebrate in our own way by just enjoying this time of year:-)
