Help to take back my computer

I've had some spyware and trojan problems lately that my Norton Internet Security 2007 was not able to handle. So yesterday I went to the Microsoft site and found their scan tool which I ran, it took hours, and it identified many problems that the Norton had not found and although it said it did not fix a lot of them, the worst ones seem to be gone or at least are not being a nuisance. However, one has taken the administrator powers away, I am not on a local network and I'm the only user of my computer. But now I can't even find the control panel and if I click on add/remove programs it says I can't access that function and to see the network administrator. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running XP on an almost two year old Dell desktop. Thanks.

If you get the SP2 fix's for XP you will have a firewall. Don't let anything get past it. Always configure and scan without internet connection, set the firewall and then connect.

I have had a firewall ever since I got the computer almost 2 years ago and Norton Internet Security 2006 worked well but the 2007 has not been as good. Thus I have these problems. Thanks.

I tried that with three different dates that I hoped were far enough back, one was July 8, 2007 and the other two were more recent. It came back saying that the restore could not be done even though the dates had been listed as available.
