I like to prepare asam(a kind of sour fruit) shrimp as it is one of our family’s favorite dishes. After removing the unwanted and cleaning, the shrimps are let to dry. Then I would like to marinade them in sauce prepared by mixing asam juice, soya sauce, salt and sugar for at least half an hour before cooking.

asam fruit - Asam fruit is a kind of popular local fruit which is very sour. People here use it in cooking delicious dishes.
Asam is the local fruit here. I wonder whether it’s available in the supermarket in usa. Actuary, there are two kinds of asam in my country, Malaysia. One which shows in the picture attached. Another is a fruit in seed pod. Now the camera is not with me so I could only send the image of it by the following week. Asam juice is the juice we get from the asam fruit.

I marinate mine in melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice and if I want a little heat cayenne, or chili flakes.

Hi Bronie123, If you are thinking of grilling them, you can marinades it with salt, ginger, garlic and tumeric powder. Here how to do it: Blend ginger and garlic into a paste. Mix them with tumeric powder and a pinch of salt. Clean your prawns and mix them with the mixture above. Put them aside for half hour or so before grilling them. Its also taste good if you shallow fried them. If curry leave is available, I suggest you shallow fried them with curry leave in the cooking oil. Good luck and enjoy your shrimp or prawn.
