Bargain of the Day 9/4

United States
September 6, 2007 6:40pm CST
I have begun the search for bargain gifts to give for Christmas. This search usually begins in January, but due to my being unemployed at that time, I have had to postpone my search until recently. On September 4th I purchased 2 sets of a ceramic salt shaker and peppermill. They only cost me .99 cents for a set. Good buys are out there this time of year with summer clearance sales underway. I'm not cheap, I'm frugal.

I love a good bargain, I always look out for things to buy for Christmas presents, I meet up with the girls I used to work with just before Christmas every year and we usually set a limit on what we are allowed to spens so no-one thinks they have to buy expensive things, I like to buy a few things for each person rather than have one present for them to open, so if I find a good bargain that means I can buy more for that person...I am glad someone else id like me... a bargain hunter....

Yes, you can find Bargains out there and Great Clearance sales almost anywhere. I Love shopping the Clearance section of stores. There is nothing better than finding Bargains on something. I once found a Shirt I had fallen in Love with that retailed for $65 at Macy's for $5 on Clearance. I was a Very Happy camper indeed.

Wow. You did great! I try not to buy anything full price unless I really need to have it. Sometimes when you wait long enough it will go on sale. Sometimes you end up kicking yourself for not buying it sooner.

I don't know of anyone that doesn't love a good bargain. I know my wife is another master of sniffing out a good bargain.

I have to get out there and do some more searching. You really can get some great deals if you know when and where to look for them.

I agree—it’s not the cost of the gift- it is the thought—and so what if you shop clearance—no one has to know it- I am always looking for great bargains for gifts- Shopping clearance is one of my favorite things to do! I love to find steals! I have already started to shop for Christmas also- I love having the majority of it done- before Thanksgiving

I went grocery shopping and they had a huge clearance section set up to get rid of their spring items. They had these great collanders and a pasta spoon set for $.99 each. We bought 9 of them for our family christmas party. I figured we could watch for a sale on pasta and sauce and make them a dinner in a bowl gift. I know it isnt really original but when I have 9 family's to buy for it adds up fast.

I am trying to do Christmas very frugally this year. I am making a lot of small things, and I have picked up a few things like puzzles for $1.99 and a hat for $5 which will come in handy. I have a lot of gifts to give, and I'm glad I have started so early.

I start shopping for x-mas the day after the previous x-mas, LOL. I store gifts in a totes all year long. I tell ya though I think I am saving at least a good 75% to 50% the money by doing this. We don't have that much of an income, so any corners I can cut, girls I cut them, LOL.

I think it is a great idea to do your Christmas shopping in advance. Christmas can really be so stressful anyway, that it is good to get as many things done in advance that you can. I hate to shop, so I like to get people gift cards to stores, etc. this arrangement seems to work out well. Let us know about your other bargains that you may find!

I'm simply terrible at buying gifts for people. I try at least to buy practical things but I seem to fail to do justice to the occasion. One year I offered to send cheques or vouchers but was shouted down. It's a good thing I get to spend christmas and birthdays by myself these last few years....lol.

oh what a clever idea looking for Christmas present in an unconventional period so to save money and find something useful and nice. I think this is very wise of you. I confess I have always thought of doing something like this..I mean buying presents a little before prices start getting higher and higher because of seasonal speculation. But I never managed to do it because of lack of time and so on. It seems that we always have so many things to do (and indeed, generally, we have!!!). So just want to say...keep on with your search and I hope for good bargains!!!

Those are great ideas for very nice but frugal gifts. I always buy things at the dollar stores as they have nice items and they don't cause us to go bankrupt! I may use this idea for co-workers this year as it seems to get more expensive every year.

I am going to browse the shops this weekend. Sunday is supposed to be a rainy day. Maybe I can convince hubby to go to the mall with me.

I really want to buy christmas gifts now. But unfortunately I haven't a clue what to get anyone. I really need to get them now so I don't have to rush and be broke in december trying to get this stuff! You're right though. Now is a great time to buy with summer clearances and such!

I have a gorgeous angel figurine sitting here for my sister in law for her November birthday. Paid a dollar for it. She collects angels. I have five November birthdays that I need to buy for before I think about Christmas. Frugal is the word of the hour. Then my Daughter in Law has a Christmas birthday, grandson,New Years Eve. Hubby in January, and another sister inlaw, Two grand daughters in February. I will be all shopped out by then.

I'm with you on that, Elusive. I have already started my Christmas shopping also. I don't really have a lot to do, but it's always nice to get an early start-and you can find many bargains before the official start of the holiday shopping season.(:

Thats the same thing My family does and it saves alot of money that way. The summer stuff is starting to get marked down and I think thats the time to buy some stuff. I even wait till after Christmas and buy decorations and everything else for like 50 to 75 percent off so It saves alot of money!
