Decorating for Halloween?

I have noticed within recent years that Halloween has become one of the leading holidays when it comes to decorating. Riding through my city, I have seen elaborate decorations that would rival Christmas decorations. Do you go all-out when it comes to decorating your house and yard for Halloween? Do you just do the inside or outside? When my children were growing up they often brought home things they had made in school and we would paste them in the windows or on the walls, etc. Now they have all the lights and huge items for the yard. I think it is very exciting.

I don't care for the lights going up at Halloween. We always did our house up with cobwebs, spiders and bats. There was a skeleton and scarecrow amidst the darken regions of the porch. Spooky music played in the background. And of course, the Jack-o-lantern with its candle glowing was set in a place of honor.

Oooh! Elusive. That sounds very scary, LOL. Yes, it can be great fun once you really get into it. I just found no reason to really celebrate without the children.

I normally don't do any decorating for any of the holidays anymore but I agree that Halloween decorations are all over the place. I also love it. Halloween use to be my favorite holiday when I was younger. People all over the place, being out and about town, the craziest of costumes and just the night in general. 7

I usually stuff a scarecrow and sit him on the swing on my front porch. This year, my son, wants to do more. I probably will, but I will not buy anything until he wants to do it. He is one that has lots of ideas but very little time.

I have *halloween* type decorations in my house all year round hun. I have a bat hanging in the porch and a tombstone in the front garden under the shrubs. To me they are just part of my goth lifestyle but I love this time of year when all the Halloween things are in the shops.

Hi there. Here new zealand halloween is not a common custom, but Ive noticed that over the last couple of years people have been celebrating in various towns and cities here... Personally we dont celebrate halloween, all I know about it is pumpkin lights and door to door collecting, treats or tricks, I maybe wrong... But anyway to cut along story short, just this afternoon, I threw an rotten old pumpkin out into the garden and I must say it looks halloweenish to me lol...

I have always hated Halloween. I never really liked getting dressed up in costumes. I don't know why but I just don't care for the whole holiday. My kids always want to put up decorations and and try to dissuade them. The best I can do is make them wait until a day or two before. We have some scary decorations and I don't really like scaring the little kids. Our neighbours rigged their house up big time. The father loves Halloween and set up a guy with a cauldron with a bloody hand and smoke coming out of it. When you got to the porch, strobe lights would flash like lightening, a big spider would drop from the ceiling, scary moaning noises were really loud, and a coffin would open up and a werewolf would sit up. It was pretty scary. A lot of kids wouldn't even go near the house. For some reason he didn't do any Halloween decorating last year and I'm betting he disappointed a lot of people. Some houses do go all out. I think those are the ones with teenage kids who do the decorating. My sister was born on Halloween and after her kids moved out she turned out the lights and stayed in her bedroom. She never answered the door, made it look like no one was home. I think I'd like to do that too. LOL!

I've noticed that Halloween is getting bigger in the kind of attraction people have for it. We used to do a lot of decorating for it when I was a kid, but since I've gotten older, we just haven't done so. I've gotten back into the decorating habit since I've gotten into college and have the chance to decorate a space and have other people really enjoy it.

Oh I go all out with decorating my place for Halloween...Even though I live alone, I see no reason I shouldn't spruce up the place decorating for any holiday--In fact the first week of October I plan to start..I make many of my own decorations...I made a huge ghostie type doll, out of nothing but large kitchen garbage bags...I stuff the "head" area then give my ghostie a necktie, and draw in the face, then I make smaller ones out of tissues...yup tissues..then I made a witch doll to hang up...then I have fake fall leaves all around --made a Halloween themed dreamcatcher with spiders hanging from it, and have also made hanging bats...oh yup I go all out..hehe I also do a real decorating thing for my door as well

I used to live in the country and we never got any trick or treaters, so I would just decorate the inside of the house. This year we are living in town and I plan to do the yard and the house! I love taking my son out trick or treating and seeing the elaborate displays! Scarecrows, haybales and pumpkins, ghouls and goblins! I love Halloween decorations, and I also love Christmas and I plan to go all out for Christmas, too. But, you are right, it does seem that Halloween decorating has come up in the world in the last few years!
