"Fall Cleaning"--Do You Do This?

Everyone has heard of Spring cleaning, but do any of you do a Fall Cleaning as well. As if I'm not busy enough, with my tinkering around creating my slide-shows and working on two more grants, I decided to do this major over-haul and do a major Fall Cleaning thing. Have you ever heard that saying, get rid of the old to pave the way for the new? Well, that's exactly what I'm doing. It's not like I have a lot of clutter here, but I still discovered I have a lot of accumulated "stuff" and looking at it made me think...like why the heck am I keeping this stuff? So today I got around to clearing out and cleaning up the larger closet I have....yikes I couldn't believe all the stuff I was able to trash out...Boxes galore that I was saving for "just in case"--Just in case what I don't know--LOL--I haven't used them yet so out they went---and just a lot of other junk. Tomorrow I'll tackle my other closet, then place to do a thorough cleaning out of the kitchen....Believe me, this is INCREDIBLY boring stuff to do, but I do want to get it done. So how about you...do you do a "Fall Cleaning"? Do you manage to get rid of a lot of stuff as well?? Oh...and if any of you want to come over and help..all are welcomed...hehehee

I usually do have a fall cleaning. Every year my mom and I would have a garage sale in early October. Now that she has moved to Texas I won't have the sale, but I will go the fall cleaning, especially since when my mom moved she brought over and gave me many things that she didn't want to move. LOL

Hi pyewacket :) Hubby and I just moved a little over a year ago and already did the cleaning out but yes I do that in the spring only. It's enough of a task to do that I don't dare try doing it twice a year. Too darned much work! LOL

I'd much rather be spanked than to have to do that... ugh! Thank God I already did it when we moved but next spring I'll have to do it again. Fun fun fun.

Yes, I also indulge in ‘fall cleaning’. Here in India we don’t have the fall as such but this season, autumn, is a long festive season for us. And that definitely means new clothes, new utensils, new shoes, new (well many many things, whatever the house needs). So every year around this time I will attack my closet, my draws, my kitchen cabinets, the shoe-box…anything and everything which is used to store something. I will pull out one by one old stuff, some used some unused some useless and with a most sad face I will tell my husband that we need this, we need that. He will of course try to defend his purse but (as always) the wife wins! What a good excuse fall cleaning is to go shopping till I drop ha ha ha!

I did that for the better part of the day today. Such fun it wasn't, but at least it cured the boredom I had today. Nearly got everything cleaned up, just have one stack of papers to go through, but that can wait till tomorrow. I'm just glad we didn't accumulate that much stuff during the summer months.lol! As for helping you, I would, but after I get mine done, I've decided that I'm taking a vacation from cleaning for at least a week. I'll leave it up to hubby to clean it up..hehe

Well see it's like this, I could take off longer, but than I think hubby would get a wee upset, since he works 10 hour days. So a week it is..than maybe I can butter him up for a longer time off next time..hehe!

I've done it, but I pretty much can't do heavy work by myself because of the fibromyalgia. So I very much doubt I'll be doing it, again, this year!

I kind of took it easier today, but did a little cleaning up...I re-organized my computer desk, which isn't as easy as it sounds as this is a BIG desk with a hutch...I'll tackle the other closet tomorrow and get my kitchen really sparkling clean during the week as well..

We had a sort of tradition when I lived in Tennessee, pyewacket. After school started in the fall we would always give the house a thorough cleaning, just like in the spring. My aunt always said that this would not leave a lot to be done once the holiday season kicked in. I usually still do it even though I live alone for the most part now. Believe me, you're right, it is no picnic!

I think that's why I got it into my head to do my fall cleaning thing--to pave the way for the upcoming holidays...also, there's that saying --get rid of the old to make way for the new in one's life

Maybe you shouldn't have looked in that closet! lol! I hope you don't over-work yourself, it seems like your doing a lot already! I think here we will just wait for spring to clean up, possibly have a yard sale! Take care Pyewacket.

I do a decluttering each season, getting rid of any seasonal items that I don't use. And I've been trying not to buy any more stuff, so eventually I will have pared down to only the things I actually use or want to keep.

Okay--you're on...will pick you up soon..LOL....Actually I guess I don't have a life either..I too, like that feeling of getting rid of that accumulated stuff--I tackled my closet today..--now both closets are so unbelievably uncluttered I think I'm in the wrong place..hehe...tomorrow might start tackling doing a make-over in the kitchen My kitties must wonder what their mom is doing---I ask them,...hey guys, want to help out--they just look at me daft, as if to say, "Hey, we don't do hard labor...our jobs are to sleep, eat, cuddle on your bed in such a way that you sleep like a pretzel, and look adorable..."

I do fall cleaning if it means pulling out the winter items and putting away the summer ones for the season, I did mine last week and had a huge lot of sweaters that I listed on eBay

I actually do my bigger cleaning projects more often during the Fall than Spring. Basically, my life works around he school year. Once the kids go back to school, I enjoy them being gone again and begin doing the cleaning while they are in school. I take advantage of the uninterupted time. As Thanksgiving and Christmas apporoach the organizing intensifies. Once I get through New Years, then things start to slip and get worse and worse though the summer til they go back to school again.

Looking at the task ahead of me, I think I'm going to be doing a really big cleanup myself..like you I didn't do much of a cleaning up during the spring...maybe there's also something more symbolic to do a big cleanup at fall..as the year is ending...to get rid of the year's accumulated stuff??

Yes I do spring and fall cleaning. You never know how much you have collectd. There is always something to throw away. Even if it is just a bunch of saved papers and what not. There is also all the saved food containers "that I may need" lol. I also wash all the curtains, pillows, carpets. It gives me a good feeling though.

Hiya pyewacket dear, hmmmm, I hate cleaning, gee, I really hate it so much you have no idea, but unfortunately will have to, hating it or not :( years ago I had it much better financially and was hiring cleaning teams to come and put everything on the side and make my home spik and span, but cannot afford it anymore, and now is all on me and my partner. he will help me with most of it, but he is also the biggest part of the problem we have. he NEVER let me get rid of the old stuff that he is putting aside for when needed, so believe me, we have a room filled with old stuff that I'd love to discard and make something lovely of the room for people when visiting, but he doesnt let me get rid of any of it, so I am stuck with it. This year I think I'll start in a week or two when he will have a free week as I wouldn't think about it to start on my own, as it is too much work :) TheFortunes

Urgh..believe me I hate cleaning to..that's why I tend to put off any major things off as long as possible until I get the twinge of needing to do it--oh my goodness. Sounds like you're partner is a bit of a pack rat...always saving things "just in case" right? LOL

LOL - Would love to come and help and all but you'd be finished by the time I got there :) I don't do 'deep cleaning' at a certain time of year. When ever it hits me or I'm in the mood to do it then I do. It's a bit boring but I feel good once I'm finished because I feel like I accomplished something :)

I seem to be constantly clearing out clutter in this house hun. It is an ongoing job for me these day although I hope that before much longer it will all be cleared up and sorted out. My Mum always used to do a spring clean and an autumn clean, particularly doing the kitchen in the autumn, getting ready for the time when she would make jam and pickle vegetables.

Eh, sortof lol. The house does change per season, as it's not that big and needs to suit our different needs/lifestyles (which vary per season.._ and I'm mostly referring to my family lol). And though I clean ALL the time...I do take special time out every fall, usually around this month, and re-arrange things. Put away summer clothing, clean out my closet (which ALWAYS accumulates a ton of junk). And then I decorate for the season, lol. I do tend to throw away alot of stuff/give it away, but never all of it...the remainder stays to encourage more accumluation for next year lol.

I do major cleaning probably every 6 weeks. I have a 3 bedroom house and we have to keep it in order or it will become too cluttered. its not a major job but it still takes me about 2 days to get it all done. My kitchen is a big problem, husband just takes stuff and lives a mess, son does the same. My mother wants to help so she comes and helps in the kitchen (washing dishes) and then she puts everything where she things it belongs. So I have to take everything out and re organize it. It takes me a while to get started but once I start I enjoy cleaning. Tell me when is the big clean up I will come.
