Do you brush your teeth in the shower?

United States

Ive been doing this for as long as I can remember. I keep a little cup that suctions to the shower wall to keep our toothbrushes in til we are finished showering. Some of my friends do this, some of them think its absurd! lol Whats the difference from brushing them standing at the sink? I think it saves a bit of time, and I dont think its less sanitary by any means. Which has been the argument some of my friends have given me. Whats your flavor? Do you brush them at the sink or in the shower? Bay xx

Well To tell you the truth I have never heard of this. I have always brushed my teeth at the sink, and I don't think I know anyone who has ever done this also I don't know maybe some of my friends have. It is not really something that tends to come up in conversation, to often one of these days I may just ask to see how many of my friends actually do that...

Hi Izathewzia, See now, I would have never thought to use the kitchen sink. Your not the only one who said this. I might if I was in a dire hurry and someone other than my husband was in the bathroom at the time. Doubt that would happen but that would be the only time. lol Bay xx

I brush at the sink. For one I brush my teeth more than I shower so if I had my toothbrush in the shower I'd only brush once a day. I use to clean for people who had their tooth brushes in the shower. It was the first time I ever heard on it. What bothers me about it is the soap scum and all and when you wash your hair and the soap goes everywhere it would go on the brush. It's not less sanitary but I wouldn't want to eat soap.

Hi Missybal, I guess I wasnt too specific with my initial discussion really. I dont keep it there, once Im done taking my shower I put it back in the holder on the sink. I dont only brush them in the shower, I do use the sink as well. I have a holder that suctions to the wall of the shower, I keep it up high by the shower head, so I dont think I get any soap or shampoo on it. I do agree, tasting shampoo or soap would not be a pleasant thing! Thanks for your comment! Bay xx

Hi Terryz! LOL totally understandable. I just replied to someone saying that its just how most of us were raised. Our parents taught us to use the sink and mirror. Ill still use the sink, of course Im not in the shower 2 or three times a day! lol Thanks for your comment! Bay xx

For many years & until now, I've been brushing my teeth at the sink. Even if we don't have a mirror near the sink, I feel more at ease brushing there. But I have tried brushing in the shower and I discovered that it just isn't for me. Pardon & no offense meant but this is really what I feel about it. For one, I catch myself imagining about gross things while I brush my teeth in the shower. My husband, on the other hand, prefers brushing in the shower while taking a bath. He even urges me to do the same, but I guess it's not my thing; although I was forced to do my brushing simultaneous with taking a bath when we stayed with my in-laws in the province. Over there, they had a separate sink but this was used only for washing the dishes.

Hi Mykmari! No offense taken at all! I was just curious at how many people were like me or not like me about brushing their teeth in the shower. I thank you for your comment! Bay xx

Hello bayleighgray, I usually brush my teeth at the sink in front of the mirror. Thats where I also put my toothbrush. I find nothing wrong if you do brush your teeth in the shower. Sometimes specially in the morning I do that. Before I shower I would take my toothbrush with me in the shower and in there I brush my teeth. Yes I think it does save some time because I usually do it when I am in a hurry. :-)

Hi Eprado! hehe How come most need a mirror?? We would be at a loss if we didnt have a mirror or couldnt see the mirror due to blindness....what would they do then?? hehe I feel much better that there are people who agree with me though, it seems to be an even keel with who does and who doesnt! Thanks for your reply! Bay xx

I seldom brush my teeth in the shower, I have to do it when I am in a hurry and want to save time. Sorry, but like your friends,I find it disgusting and unsanitary. So as much as possible I would have to brush my teeth in the kitchen sink or the proper sink you say.

Hi Jhanna!, Hmm, now I have never heard of anyone using the kitchen sink to brush their teeth in, so you taught me something there. They say that keeping your toothbrus too close to the toilette is unsanitary, but really hard to avoid since your toilette is in your bathroom where your sink and shower are. lol Its all how you have been raised to do things I guess. Thanks for your comment! Bay xx

Hi Kaerfaima! Well I guess it depends on how you look at it hon! lol Odd to some I guess, if that is not the way you have been brought up to do it. I think we are all taught from our parents to brush at the sink in front of a mirror. Im odd ;) lol Just works best for me in the mornings. Thanks for your comment! Bay xx

HI, i am different way from you.. Normally i will brush ny teeth at the sink becouse the fisrt thing that i do is brush my teeth after i wake up. Cos i do not take bath immediately when i just wake up from sleep. So i also do the same thing before i go to my bed in the night time.

Hi Shy_gal, Well not too different! :) I will use the sink if Im not taking a shower immediately, but normally I do. I like to have a shower soon when I wake up because I let my hair air dry, and if I need to go somewhere throughout the day, my shower is already taken. I do have my lazy days though, and I will skip the shower as soon as I wake up and just use the sink to brush them. Thanks for your comment! Bay xx

This post struck me as funny, but I'm in the same boat as you. I've always brushed my teeth in the shower. I get rather annoyed when I forget to take it in the shower with me, and I have to brush my teeth at the sink. I think it saves a lot of time, and I like the hard blast from the water on my teeth when I'm rinsing out my mouth. Maybe it's strange to some people, but it's perfectly normal to me. :D

Hi Tarrish! lol Exactly, I like using the water from the shower head and my toothbrush to rinse them. I think it makes them feel more clean than just swishing water around in my mouth. From some of the responses I have gotten, yes it is strange to some. Thanks for your comment! Happy Toothbrushing! LOL Bay xx

Sometime I do brush my teeth in the shower, but sometime I do brushing my teeth in the wash table. It depend on the situation. But What is often happen, is doing it in the shower. It much more simple in my opinion. Same as you, I think it saves a bit of time. II don't have any favorite flavor for my tooth paste, just the normal one which give us fresh feeling and taste, I guess.

Hi Nyumix, Yeah I like the minty feeling from toothpaste. I used to use one that tasted like spearmint, which is my fave, but they stopped making it. It was Crest Rejuvinating Effects....not sure why they stopped making it, it really was a great whitening toothpaste. :( Thanks for replying! Bay xx
