Choosing best response

I recently had a friend to ask me about choosing my best response too quickly on a discussion. I really had not thought of it before. Usually I wait too long or get distracted and forget to choose one. But on this one occassion within 2 hours I had had a really great response to one of my discussions and I chose the best response right away. So I thought to be fair in choosing my future best responses, I wondered how long is the average wait time for choosing best response? My goal here on mylot is to make a lot of friends and learn a lot from the variety of discussions we have posted here, I certainly do not want to ever offend anyone or do anything was not proper my lot ettiquette. I do look forward to all views on this.

Thank you for sharing with me. I probably would have done the same thing you did under those circumstances. Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and will go far on mylot.

I HATE picking the best response because to me everyone who puts in their input means a great deal to me. I have picked a best but I don't like doing it because I feel it belittles everyone else's responses. I have a few that I need to do but have put it off for so long. Who knows, I just may not pick the best response and just let it go..... arg!! To answer your question, I would say give it about 5 to 7 days before picking the best because for some it takes time to get to answer for they're busy in their lives and can't answer right away.

You will never please everyone, no matter how hard you try. Every once in a while you get an answer that is so very right on they could have been reading your mind, you know it is the best response possible. You might as well mark it as best response. Almost always I wait a week or two, but if that perfect response came along quickly, I would mark it. You do not do it all the time, but if it felt right to you that time, you should. I guess if you want to avoid those kinds of questions then you can just mark down on paper somewhere, and two weeks later come back and mark it best response.

I usually wait 3-5 days before marking best response. I want to give everybody a chance to post their responses.

I think it depends on how many responses you get. If it's been three weeks since you started your post and only three people answered then I'd definately wait to do BR but if lets say it's been three weeks and you have many responses then the fair thing to do would be to read them all over and credit one with BR. You can never please everyone but I think for the most part people have been pretty good about doing the best they can. I certainly don't get BR for all my answers and that's great because in reading them over there's many times where the BR is by far the best choice. Take Care and whatever you do just keep up the good work and staying on my friends list is all the BR in the world!!!

I think that it is fair to wait at least a week so that you have a better chance of getting the very best , best response. Ihave seen some people that would put the best response for the first response that came in regardless of how may other people would give what I considered better responses.

I ususually wait at least one week as not all myLotters can post every day. I would feel bad if some one gave a great response a a few days and I had already been too hasty and given the BR. As I happen to be the friend you are referring to I posted my response within one hour after the discussion had been opened and took some time to research for an accurate video to answer your question. Actually I was pleasantly suprised to get a complimentary comment from the person you gave the BR.I do know that many myLotters do not bother to given quality responses or even respond at all is the chance for BR is not longer there.

Hmmmmm I agree with you 100% because giving comments to others responses is what keeps the threads going and I beleive that is the whole concept of discussing. Again thanks so do be surprised to see me throwing my 2 cents worth (wish it was two cents not less than one! LOL)

I am glad I posted this discussion, it has made me understand why most wait a week or so to choose best response. I had never thought of it maybe influencing someone not to respond just b/c BR had been chosen. I guess b/c it does not influence my decision in responding to a discussion. But I do see why most wait and I can certainly see why some would think it unfair for me to choose so quickly. I also agree that this is a forum for discussions, that means comments and responses to comments. That is how we learn & discuss topics of interest. Thank you for sharing your views with me.

I always wait a minimum of a week and sometimes two weeks before a choose Best Response; unless of course, you asked a specific question and it was immediately answered within minutes - like the person who described the storyline of a particular book and she needed to know the title - one person responded within minutes with the title and she gave that person BR. On the whole though, I think a week is good.

I'm surprised someone would question your choice of best response. You can select it anytime you feel like it as it is your discussion after all. I usually wait until the next day of the last person who has posted a comment but thats only because I don't get as many as others do so its easier to go through and select a best response. I try not to leave it too long or else you will be going through pages and pages of responses which can become tiresome.

I usually wait two weeks for best response as a lot of people don't get to their pc's until the weekends. This gives everybody a chance to review the discussions.

My schedule is so tight that I do the best I can. I think it is a personal decision that should be based on what is best for you. I am happy when I get a best response but I do not think twice about when it comes through. Whatever is best for that person is is fine with me.

I have never heard of myLot ettiquette on that subject. I usually wait a week because sometimes it takes that long for some of my friends to respond. I am usually late with my responses. I have over 300 responses from my friends to get to some of them are over a week old. I know some of my frinds have already picked a best response.

I think you did OK with your "best response!" I don't worry about it. When you get an appropriate response that covers the subject, and it "rings" with you. Grab it and run! (so to speak). After all, its your post and you can choose any response you like. Don't worry, have fun! Friends are friends, and if they are offended... Thats just too Bad! They had better get over it! I will not compromise my posts or my responses for anyone's feelings. I believe in, "saying it as it is!", and I feel this is important to myLot and to myself respect.
