Right now I have a cockatiel and this little guy keeps me company and also keeps me busy. I'm enjoying trying to teach him to talk and so far all he can say is hello. Having people hear him say that one word makes me feel so proud! In a week I'm getting a yorkie and I couldn't be more excited. Since I have a problem with leaving my apartment due to psych problems she is going to be a big help to me! I'll have no choice but go out to walk her. She's goint to be a lot more company for me than my little Mookie because she's in the habit of sleeping with her owner so I'm sure she will be joining me also. She will also keep me busy since she will need to be groomed and taken care of also. What is the best thing about your pet? Is it more company for you or do you feel like it's a pain having to deal with them?

This is going to be my baby! - Yorkshire Terrier
I'm thinking my new yorkie is going to be the same way. From what the present owners say I think she will be. She is actually all I have ever wanted and can't wait to get her!

My pets are tropical fish, so they are living in their fish tanks now. Most of them were out in the pond during the summer. The only fish that have learned any tricks are my daughters catfish, who love toys. They are albino miniatures and love pushing things, going through toys, eating from my hand and queen of the bridge. One of the females is so good at queen of the bridge that is usually where I can find her.

I use to have shrimp in my tank, but they were eaten. My suggestion is a separate tank for the shrimp. I did have the shrimp in there for two years before my tropical fish just one day decided to have dinner.

Well, I learned something new today! I wasn't aware that any kind of fish could learn tricks. That must have been very hard to do.

lol...at least when she's sleeping she's not pooping right? Potty training is the hardest thing to do with a pet but when they finally get it it's great for all concerned.

I love all my pets, but I guess my two cats are my favourites. The best thing about one of my cats is that she sleepsc on bed with my husband & myself every night. She cuddles up real close, sometimes right in the middle of us both. She really loves my husband, even thoiygh he came along when she was four years old. She is very affectionate with both of us. I have a cockatiel too, & he can talk quite a bit. They are great birds.

I had cats at one time and also loved the way they like to cuddle in bed with us. Yes, the 'tiels are great. I'm teaching Mookie to talk but he's very young yet so I'm very patient with him.

I have to cats and a Jack Russell, the thing I think I find the most special is how they love me unconditionally. They are always available for a cuddle and squeeze. I would say they never talk back to you, but my dog does :))

To me the fact that they love us unconditionally IS the best part of having a pet.

I think I have the same feeling with you.My puppy play with me after he was born, and I left him for further study for about 3 months for the first time .When I was back,he ran up to me and kept with me all the time until I left again .I knew that he had said that he missed me .

There isn't anything that's bad about my reggie cat. well... he does scratch me once in a while but whatever! ha ha. I love him and he's the best thing in my life. i don't even know what I would do without him. he's almost 5 and i've had him since he was only 10 weeks old. He means the world to me and he's the greatest thing in my life.

That's wonderful! I wish I wasn't allergice to cats because I know how faithful to their owners they can be. Especially if you got one as a baby.

What's funny is that he was orinally my brothers and his wife. They got him at 6 weeks. Kept him for a month before I met him. and I lived with my parents at the time so he could have chosen any of us. But he chose me. I did spend more time with him than the others but still. He chose me :)

My two dogs are still puppies at 8 months, and there are some kinks I have yet to work out with them. However, literally at the end of the day, when they are next to my side on the couch sleeping so trustingly, I thank the Lord they are there for me. They love me no matter what and I get to love them as much as possible.

The puppy I'm getting this week is 9 months old so I'm sure I'll have my hands full with her. Thankfully she is already trained to go out so I think that's half the battle. I can't wait to cuddle with her on the couch.

I really miss having a "real" pet in my life right now, ctry, so I substitute my red teddy bear(who sleeps with me) as a pet. I am sure that the new addition to your family will be an exciting one. I think you can have much more active fun with a puppy than your cockatiel(no offense). There's only so much a bird can do. I have a similar condition to yours and have been thinking more and more of getting a pet for myself.

Between getting older and my psych condition I think the best thing for me is a dog. My therapist, psych. and another mental health worker I have actually got in touch with my housing and told them this is something I need for my mental well being! Your right about Mookie but right now he's good for me and keeps me busy and company. I have a couple of stuffed teddy bears I used to rely on but they really didn't quite do the trick! lol....
