What is "Eid"

United Kingdom

I have noticed it being advertised and, I guess it is a celebration of some kind. I thought the word looked Jewish but as it was in a shop in an Indian-dominated village, I guess it's actually Indian. I have never heard of it before.

It's a Muslim festival marking the end of Ramadan. Wikipedia's entry is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Fitr

Thank you. I won't lok at the Wikapedia as it isn't very good but I believe you must be right with that answer. It's funny though because I have a friend in Tunisia who is a Muslim and he talks about Ramadan but I have never heard him talk about Eid!

Owlwings is right, I had to learn about it during my NNEB course but can't remember much. The info is in the attic and I'm not looking there.
