Let say you work for processing plant. There are about 60 people per shift. The plant runs 24/7, using 4 shifts. You report to work on you shift, and someone approaches you about something they heard about you, and ask if it is true. This rumor that is going around does not involve you, but it is being said about you. How do you handle the situation? Is there a way to defuse this rumor?

Most of the best advice has already been given. When I worked at Wal Mart a million years ago there were people who would go to the local fast food joint and joke about what rumors they were going to start around, and then go back to start them. I refuse to participate in that, and your friend should too.

Along with not spreading the rumors and lies, if possible we can also speak whatever truth we know that is positive and uplifting.

hi gerty,
Good advice!! If you don't want to contribute, then you shouldn't.. Especially if you know the rumors to be false in the first place. But how do you defuse a rumor that is going around and you don't know if it is true or not?
Personally, I just would not spread it.
Have a nice day..

Well people are gonna talk and I look at it this way if people really know ya they are not gonna belive what the other one says anyway next week they will be talking about someone else so just don't remark about it remember it takes 2 to make something out of nothing and if ya say something about it they will know it got to ya if you don't say nothing then they will wonder what is really going on.

Hi cajun,
You have a nice way of putting it. I feel that way too. Don't give them any ammo to make it go longer. Keep quiet and it will blow over. Thanks for replying.

Oh boy the rumors in the factory. LMAO Anyone who has ever worked any where, has been victim to gossip. Even if you do not know you have trust me, there is someone in the plant talking about you. I ignore it completely. What people think about me is not my concern. I am there to work, and any real friends know better then to listen and to believe rubbish. I keep my head high and not even give the satisfaction to the gossiper that he she has disturbed me. Beside I have always said if the rumor mill is talking about me they are giving another poor soul a break.

Hello angelwhispers,
I like your attitude!! That is exactly how I feel about the whole situation. A friend of mine was involved in this situation yesterday, and I tried to tell her to ignore it, but she had an awful time letting go of it. We finally got her calmed down, and things settled down after that. Although the rumor is still going around. Thanks for your response.
Happy posting..
