If you don't believe in God

do you find it difficult sometimes to believe in nothing? do you sometimes feel yourself thinking maybe God exists? why do anything? you will certainly die and rot away to nothing one day so everything you do is pointless - n'est pas? I think maybe it is easier to believe in God, because if you believe you have something to motivate and drive you to keep believing but, if you believe in nothing then there is nothing to motivate you to keep on believing there is no God (i.e. to be a devout atheist) Let's hear from the Atheists

I have a friend he is a psychology graduate. He strongly not believe in religion so it means he don't believe with God. He believe more in humanitarian or humanity. I asked him once if his mother raised him as a catholic and then he said "yes". And i asked myself why there are people easily change of there believe?. Because thats what they studied or they have there own intellectual and very strong power to themselves in proving some fact base on there theory and analization? Ok, i did not judge him but i am in way of contradicting him. Somewhat i read some of his documents. He said it was a proved that God is not exist and God is not real. I am open and reading and listening to him but it doesn't mean my faith to God is gone. I have a strong believe and faith to HIM. Yeh, We never see HIM. We never touch or even talk to him in person. He never existed as human. But He will exist in our Heart if we feel Him and believe on him. If your doubt then your faith in not with you. Its up to you how will you accept Him to your life but He will always here if you want Him.;) happy posting.

Yeah, I study psychology as well and I don't really buy into the whole religion thing very much. But your completely wrong and naive to say that your friend doesn't believe in a god just because he doesn't believe in religion. Religion is a man made system of rules, regulations, and rituals which some believe were designed to create a fear of god and thus control. Others believe religion is just a creation of man to keep the many content and to have something to 'live' for. But we have no clue if there is or is not a god and if there is we have no clue which 'religion' is right (if any) or if this god is even an entity that cares about our faith or even our exisistence. Maybe a god exists and maybe not, but religion is man made, god is unknown and thus is not man made.

I've said it before and I'll say it again "Which God? Whose God?" You make it sound like either someone believes in your particular deity or they are an atheist. I have very strong faith in my own Gods. My faith has helped me in many times in my own life, and my Gods have actively intervened to save my life before. So while I don't believe in the same God you do, I still believe in something. However, I have known atheists who are both very moral and very motivated. I've known many who say that not believing in any God or afterlife makes them appreciate what they have during this life, and treat it respectfully. I honestly don't care what Gods people believe in, or if they believe in any. What I care about is how they treat themselves, the people around them, and the world.

You make some excellent points, it is good to see a person who is religious and yet doesn't chastize others for not believing in faith.

Thank you. =) I guess in a way I've been lucky because I've had a chance to meet a lot of different people, and learn that it's not really just faith that defines a person.

I think it is egotistical to think there is not something beyond this and that there was not something behind our creation. I do believe in a higher power whether it be God or whomever. Too many interesting things have happened for me not to question the existence of whatever it may be. I do believe in that higher power. Again, this is my opinion.

I'm still relatively undecided on this whole issue as to whether or not there is a god. I can think for myself so I'm not about to jump to one side or the other just because someone says to either. I do agree it is 'easier' to blindly follow a belief that everything is rosy and happy and that God will be waiting at the end of life. I also think that while it is ok to follow whatever belief you want, the easy way is not always the best way. If one becomes content and complacent because they firmly believe in God then what is to stop them from becoming intellectually lazy and not being motivated to be curious and to explore. After all humanity once believed that gods and mystical powers controlled all the weather based on a god's emotions or that it was all magic; science later came along and gave rational explanations for most of nature's occurances. While these occurances are still amazing in themselves, if it wasn't for curiosity and an interest in the unknown we might all still be worshiping sea gods and tree gods and whatever else we used to explain things we didn't understand back then. I kind of think it is a cop out to just say 'Yes there is a god and an afterlife and when I die everything will be perfect because god cares.' I mean sure it may put your mind at ease while your living, but it just seems so boring to readily and blindly accept it. I'm not Athesist as I do consider the possibilty of a god, I'd just rather not commit to one set belief for now because I would like to remain very inquisitive and not yet quench my thirst for an answer to the unknown.

"do you find it difficult sometimes to believe in nothing?" - I do find it hard to believe in "nothing" which is why I DON'T believe in "nothing"...I believe in everything to one extent or another...but thats not the same as my agreeing with everything... "do you sometimes feel yourself thinking maybe God exists?" - I think that gods/goddesses/higher powers/energies etc exist yes but in my life its not the christian god that I believe in.. "why do anything? you will certainly die and rot away to nothing one day" - why do anything in life? because its part of living...and everything we do continues on long after we've passed on... "so everything you do is pointless - n'est pas?" - no not at all..EVERYTHING has its purpose and everything we say, do, think, feel, see etc has point to it "I think maybe it is easier to believe in God, because if you believe you have something to motivate and drive you to keep believing" - waking up breathing and functioning on my own then seeing my kids every day is motivation enough for me ;-) "but, if you believe in nothing then there is nothing to motivate you to keep on believing there is no God (i.e. to be a devout atheist)" Nobody believes in "nothing" Everyone believes in "something" including atheists (which btw I am not..nor am I christian for that matter)...just because YOU dont get it or the next person doesnt get it is completely irrelivent dont you think..All that matters is that the individual themselves understands it

no, its easier not to believe in god.. for if there is some type of [judeo christian type] god, then there is no free will. id rather have free will than purpose.

Everyone doesn't have the same understandings or ideas about God, but I think it impossible for someone to believe in nothing.

I find that there is plenty to motivate me even when there is no belief in a god. There are lots of interesting people and animals. The universe and nature offer spectacular experiences throughout our life.

Yes of course I believe that God exist. He is always there and helping us for everything we do. He will become our sheperd and loves us for alive. God is only one pray away from us, you can prove it if you do it for yourself.

Of course there is a God. I mean look around you, do you think the universe came from nothing? Look at it this way: A watch has to have a watchmaker. A painting has to have a painter. A building has to have a builder. So like all these things have creators, Mankind and the universe also have to of had been created by some kind of a higher being then us. So in other words yes God Does Exists 100%
