Hi everyone. I'm finding very little time to be on mylot and I miss you all terribly! We are expanding our nursing program this year and there is so much work! I've always had problems falling asleep due to being such a light sleeper. The smallest of noises will wake me. I have used a white noise machine but am interested in trying music. Can anyone recommend any light music that would be very relaxing? I know for sure that any music with vocals wouldn't work for me! Hit me with your suggestings for some smooth, soft relaxing music!!! Thanks!

I love listening to the sounds of the ocean. The sound of the waves lulls me into slumber. How about guitar music. Soft, smooth, peaceful. Or maybe the panflute.

I love to travel to nice beautiful places. I always want my room to be as close to the beach as possible. Yet I have a problem,, I hate the sound of the waves rolling in and out when I am trying to sleep. I don't like using ear plugs so I have a problem. LOL I just do my best to block it out to get to sleep. I still love the beach and would rather wake up to that wonderful view no matter what.

My husband and I use several different discs to fall asleep to. The Gregorian Chant works well even though there are vocals. They are so monotonous, they lull me to sleep. Also, Endless Winter by Sula Bassana is very nice. My husband has lots of ambient music. You just have to be careful and listen to the whole thing before trying to sleep to it. There is nothing worse than being almost asleep when a huge cymbal crashes.

I normally don't use music to fall asleep, but have done it a few times because my husband likes it. Anything with vocals wouldn't work for me either because I'd start singing along with it, either in my head or out loud, so that can't work. Lol! What we use is tapes or CDs with sounds on them, like ocean waves or forest sounds. They have a ton of different ones and they can be very relaxing and tranquil. Go to a store that allows you to preview CDs and check one out. I hope they work for you! It's no fun to not sleep well.

Welcome Back!!!I'm happy to see you here. I missed you thanks for the message!!! I don't sleep well either so I'm watching your answers very carefully. I'm all about country music and it works somewhat but I need more help in this too. Don't work too hard and Take Care.

I used to listen to Kenny G when I'd fall asleep. Now I don't listen to anything except the fan and my windchimes. I'd like to get one of those thingies that play ocean or wind sounds...I think I'd like that. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Try some relaxation tapes. I've used ones made in Australia, I'm sure you guys have them too. We have rainforest, sounds, ocean sounds...there are lots to choose from. I think some relaxation strategies may be of benefit to you as well. Like starting at the top of your head, your forehead, scrunch the muscles as you lie comfortably, then release them, feel how relaxed your forehead is. Work your way down your face, squeezing your eyes shut, gritting your teeth, stretching your lips and cheeks, each time, relaxing that part too. Work down your body,...shoulders, arms, hands, fingers etc. You will probably be asleep before you finish. Also, the more you practice doing relaxation, the better you get. It's lovely to see you. Take care of you mate.

I sleep very well unlike your situation but, if I should make a suggestion, I think I will recomend Jazz and blues, Jazz sound will take you to that place you want to be cos the way the rhythm flows has this significant way of passing a message to the body. The Jazz music is mostly used for relaxation though am not a lover of Jazz but it helps alot, So do blues also, if it is possible you get only the intrumental and not the lyrics, what i mean is just the beats playing no person singing, that helps alot too.

If I could not sleeps I often listen to music. The soft pop music or classical music is also nice to listen when it come to go to bed. Maybe you can try to listen classical music like what I did, hope it will also work for you.

I will not sleep if listening to music. Usually,I count my fingers from 1 to 10 silently again and again. And then I'll sleep.Sometime,I listen to something that does not interest me when it hard for me to sleep.

Glad to see you're back, but sorry to hear you're soooooo busy! (We missed you too!) How about listening to some classical softly in the background: Bach, or Beethoven? Leonard Bernstein had some good mellow music too. Enya has some beautiful relaxing music that has sort of a mystical, dreamy feeling. I don't know about you, but if the music has words to it, I always have a harder time falling asleep...my mind wants to fill in the words to the tune lol. Have you ever heard of the group 'Liquid Mind'? They make an album called 'sleep', and others are: 'reflecion', 'slow world', and 'spirit.' Their albums are sold a lot as sleep aids. Wishing you a good nights sleep!

You are right on saying that you should not use music with vocals. You actually should not use instrumental pieces that have words you know. If you do you will be "singing" in your brain instead of getting restful sleep. A long time ago I got some CD's that are classical music only on one side. On the other side are rainforest sounds, or ocean sounds, or thunderstorm sounds, with classical music playing as well. They are very soothing and relaxing to sleep by.

Good to see a familiar face around here. As you know, I've had some real insomnia issues (tonight being a great example) due to the meds I am on and music that I can recommend is by Liquid Mind. It's all instrumental and actually has a warning on the CD about not driving etc while listening as it is designed to put you to sleep. Very relaxing and beautiul music on top of it.
