Where did you get your cat from?

How did your beloved kitty come into your life? Was it (of they) given to you by a friend? Adopted you one day? Just showed up? I got my cat from a friend who begged me to take the last kitten from the litter off her hands. I wanted nothing to do with cats but took pitty after she said she's let it go into the woods, it was the runt kitten. And now almost 5 years later she's the light of my life, a total diva and the spoiled baby of the house.

My two cats, Kissy and Pyewacket were born here in my apartment...I think you might remember, my mom had created a shall we say a bit of a population problem of cats. Luckily I found great pet rescuers to take in the vast majority of my cats, and our landlord said there could only be two cats...It was a very hard decision to make to figure out which two to keep, I would have liked to have kept at least two more, but can't. So I wound up keeping my black cat Pyewacket, born June17, 2001, and is my magical cat, and Kissy, whose birthday is coming up on October 20th..and she'll be eight years old--now they are the bosses of the dwelling...LOL

It's sweet that they were born there. I think once you've got one they totally soften your heart and you want to take in every single one that you find. If I had a house I bet it would look like a zoo!

Carlye - This is my little trouble maker sitting on my computer.
What a cute story, glad it worked out for you and the kitty. Our first cat Ashley we got from a local pet store after my husband said lets go in and just look. After he got this sweet bundle of fur out of its cage and handed it to me, it was all over. She came right home with us. Thats here as my avatar. She is a spoiled princess indeed. She has quite the attitude and is not afraid to show it. Our second kitty which is really still a kitten was a runt like yours her brothers were twice her size! I got her from our local vet, I went in to get medicine for Ashley and came out with a little black and white kitten which we named Carlye. She is very curious, loves everyone and gets into quite a lot of trouble. Her attitude is totally different than Ashley. I love them both and they are the light of my life.

Thanks, she's quite the princess, lol. Your two are very cute! Those are great stories and they look happy to be where they are. Maybe you should put the little one to work online? Since she likes the computer so much, lol.

Angel Rose AKA "Neuser" - My cat, Angel, in my sleeping bag.
My cat came from a local animal shelter. Though I got her some 15 years ago, she hasn't aged much - still literally acts like a kitten! I was about nine years old and my parents took me to the SPCA the day I got home from summer camp. She was in a little cage with about three other six-week old kittens, all of whom were equally cute, but the solid white one was especially beautiful. She was a "lap cat" from the very beginning and even to this day has the loudest purr of any cat I've ever seen. She's literally been my best friend for the past fifteen years, no doubt about that!

That's sweet! My cat was a stray kitten taken in by my aunt's monther-in-law. However, her cat didn't get along with the new kitten, and knowing I wanted a cat, my aunt suggested me. She's been my faithful companion ever since then.

Thanks. It's great that you were able to take her in, I find that strays are usually greatful for the love and attention they get.

I got my cat from a local shelter where I used to volunteer at. He is healthy and the shelter provides a health check after I adopted him. I would recommend people to check out their local animal shelter, as there are many kittens that need a home and they are just as healthy and cute as the ones you see at a pet store!

Local shelters are great places to get pets at. When looking for a pet, I've always gone to a local shelter instead of a breeder or pet store.

Right now I have three kitties. Tiger, the oldest, was acquired by a college student, who was only spending the summer here. My son said he could take care of him for her until she could come get it, and my son could handle one night, so I became Tiger's Mamma. Princess, kept showing up in my back yard. She was an itty bitty kitty with lots of fleas. I kept telling my son and husband that I did not need more cats, at that time I had three others. I was studying for my CNA exam, they brought her in and put her in my lap. Poor kitty. I sent hubby for flea killing stuff, and we put some of a certain brand of spot on stuff on her. I remember reading about what to do if your cat exhibited neurotoxicity. Sure enough, at 4:00 am Princess (who was sleeping with us) began having seizures, so I was up, washing the cat. She spent three days under observation at the vet's. She seems resistant to fleas now, and is beautifully sleek and black. Creamery showed up several times at my house. He was the cutest baby, with a constant sneeze. Turns out he also had a tape worm. Such an adorable baby with long soft fur. Such long fur that hubby and I thought he was a she, and when old enough took "her" to be spayed. Turns out it was a he, and we just had him neutered. I am continuing to say "no more pets". I had one leave, disgusted by all the newcomers, he had been a stray when I befriended him. I had another one die a year ago. No more pets.

Sounds like quite the home for kitties! It's hard to say no when you see their cute little faces looking up at you.

Currently we have 6 cats, 3 adults and 3 kittens. Our kitties just show up. We did have one that we had for over 4 years that my mother in law gave us, he was brought to her house by her dog! Yes, the dog went somewhere and stole this little kitty from his mama. He was almost too young to be away from her. But we took him and our old tomcat raised him. Most all of our kitties just show up in our yard, like the one now, she is so sweet and pretty & I want to get her fixed and keep her, she has 3 kittens with her, she did have 4. But they are very ferral, can't get anywhere near them, so I will have to try and catch them before they get old enough to reproduce. We also have another kitty named Simone, he is gorgeous. His mama left him here too, he was solid white with beautiful blue eyes, now he is gray/white with those same pretty blue eyes, sort of cross eyed. We've never had to pay money for a kitty, they come in abundance around here.

I got my cat Oreo when I was going through a rough time, and knew I needed a kitten to help me through. A friend of a friend was trying to find a home for her so I bought her for 20 dollars. She really helped me through. And then my brother moved back into our house and brought his dog. Oreo was terrified and became an outdoor cat. She got pregnant and now I have Squinty as well!

Hey all, I had a gorgeous cat called Splodge, who was Siamese cross. My boss at work had a 13 generation purebred Siamese cat called Mia and she decided to have it away with some rough tomboy and Splodge was the only one of the litter that she couldn't find a home for because the other kittens looked almost purebred siamese. I took it off her hands and she became the love of my life. Sadly, after a year she passed away after a nasty incident with a speeding car. I vowed never to get a cat again, she became my surrogate kid and burying her was almost too much to bear. However, Mia decided to have it away with another non-siamese cat, resulting in the same problem, but this time with two boys - one black named Phoenix and one tabby called Max. She again offered me the kittens and I ummed and ahhed and decided to take them off her hands. They were the cutest little things in the world and they played together and were so adorable together. However, sadly Phoenix disappeared one day, and now I have just Max who is my baby! I never want children, and Max is the light of my life, he sleeps with me, eats with me, everything! And I'm glad I got the new kittens, my life wouldn't be complete without them!
