I just had a thought about banned members. . .

I was looking at the page with statistics, and it lists the number of members. Do you think myLot takes off numbers for the members who get banned, or do you think all those people are still included in the count? Hmmmm?

I guess that would depend if they are permanently or temporarily banned. Of course, what is to stop someone who is permanently banned from coming back with a different name?

Unless they block the ISP, a person can come back. I have one friend who has had three identities on here so far. I have a friend who was banned recently, and is using a new account, but I have not seen him yet.

Jimbo has come back more time than Shirley McClaine. I doubt I got that last name spelled right.

That is an interesting question. I wonder that same thing. I dont know anyone personally that has been banned so I cant go look up a name but it interesting to think about.

No they don't the Banned Members are still there and I know that for a fact and if you look also their Profiles are still there so the Number stated is actually not correct

Statistics can be made to say anything. I think the "Population" number is all the people who ever joined and posted at least once. I don't think it counts those whose count is zero. So, yes, it counts people who've been banned (their account is still there ...yes?) and it also counts anyone who made at least one post even if they have remained inactive since then. Members no longer active are also still counted.

I don't think they take away the number of the banned members. Since the discussions of banned members are still on here, I don't believe they would take them away from the total count.

Hello! I'm not sure about it, but I don't think they remove the banned members here in myLot, I reckon they're still included in the stats. Like example, one member who is in my friends list was banned but his name is still included in my list. I didn't bother to delete him at all. Take care. Have a great weekend! *smile* ciao! c",)

My friends list has drastically decreased over the past couple of months. I don´t know if they have been banned or if they are simply not active anymore. But all of those "invisible" friends still have their profile page on this site. I think they are still included in the count. I´m just guessing though, I´m convinced that only the site´s staff knows if they are still included. Dana

I doubt they're going to admit it. But why would they want their membership # to go down. The higher the number goes the more popular the site appears and the more it may attract new members.

I'm not quite sure about this, but I guess one example of that was our former "friend" here who was banned. I believe all of those who got involved into his posts, experienced some major set-backs on their post counts. That's what I've observed also on those I've seen who were banned due to violations, I have some of them on my list that suddenly disappeared and their accounts were no where to be found.

I haven't the foggiest lol. But this is a valis question and I think that one of us should perhaps write a note to Mylot and see if they are removing the banned members. Also a lot of members that don't come on Mylot anymore, maybe they should be removed if inactive after six months or so and if they want to come back again they should sign up again or something like that? I don't quite know what to make of it or what their set up is. But cvery valid point.

Mmmm interesting question. I don't know but now that you ask I"m thinking... I think they probably keep them. I never saw the numbers going down, only up :) Plus it looks better growing not shrinking heheh

I don't know. I'd think they would take them off, but then again who knows. I would almost like to know, not necessarily who had gotten banned, but the how many and for what offenses. I think it would help new members as they were learning the ropes, not to do the same things. I know that I violates some of the rules, most of the time without meaning to when I first started posting here.

For a while, certainly, because it appears their discussions are not deleted immediately either. I should think it would be somewhat difficult on a site like this to keep an accurate count of the members, too, because they apparently have disgruntled people coming back with new aliases before their old aliases have even been removed. I often wonder why, if they dislike the rules so much, they keep wanting to come back, though. I do think anyone can make a mistake and break some rule or another from time to time...I sure have, but I don't quite see the rationale in complaining about it. Do you?

I think they leave them on...it makes the site statistics look better. I can't say for certain though, it is just a guess. It would be nice if they would show how many active members there are.
