9 days of dancing in honour of Goddess Durga

Dandiya Dance - This dance is a mock fight between Goddess Durga and the
mighty the demon king Mahisasura and is nicknamed the sword dance. The women wear traditional dresses studded with mirror works and heavy embroidery and men wear turbans and kedias but can vary from region to region. It is a very energetic dance.

India is all geared up for late night dancing, all the way into the early hours of the morning. Nine days of dance and revelry. Boys and girls dress in their traditional best, with beautiful jewellery and now even matching lenses. The dance is with two sticks called dandiyas and is quite intricate and graceful. These nine days are to invoke the blessings of Goddess Durga, i.e. starting Monday who is the destroyer of all evil. Its fun and dance all thourgh the nine days and music is all from filmy to pop. I wish you could view this personally sometime in your life. It is amazing and real fun.
