"Benign" liver cysts?

Has anyone ever heard of a benign liver cyst? A benign hemanginoma (sp). I have always been under the impression that when something shows up in the liver, it has metastasized from another place in the body. Anyone with any personal information on this I would appreciate a response.

I just did a little googling, as I do not have any personal experience with either liver cysts or with benign hepatic hemangiomas. Both of them seem to be harmless if small. Possibly congenital, that is, present from birth. Did the doctors say which it was, a cyst or a hemangioma? I am including the link to the one, but not the other. I know you are able to research them both. Neither of them are a metastisizing type of growth, if I read it correctly. http://www.medicinenet.com/hepatic_hemangioma/article.htm I tend to like to read new medical stuff, so this seemed like a good discussion for me. I hope perhaps you will find people with more actual experience, though.

With my understanding benign means non cancerous. It's not cancer so in that respect, you're safe however I don't know about it being a cyst being safe or not so if your doctor says it needs to be removed then by all means have it removed.

Hi applsofgld, I've never personally heard of a benign liver cyst, but I have a very dear friend, who has a benign cyst on her pancreas. She's had this cyst for years, and has it checked out on a regular basis. I hope this information is even 'a little' helpful to you.
