How do you get the smoke odor out of a recliner?

A friend of mine gave me a recliner. And, I didn't realize that it smelled like smoke until we got it into the house. It's practically brand new, so I feel guilty throwing it out, just over a bad smell. But, I can't live with the smoke odor. Does anyone know how to get rid of smoke odors from fabric?

Did you try Febreze. They have many different scents and it seems to always work at my house to get the dog smell out and the smoke smell that was in my apartment before I moved in. I use febreze atleast everyother week just to make it smell so much better in the house.

Yeah, that is what I use. I used to use the scented Febreze, but now since I have a pet and my allergies act up, I use the Allergen Reducer Febreze. It makes a big difference.

I think that air freshener can help get rid of the smoke odor out of the recliner. Have you ever thought of using this stuff, please?

I would start with Febreeze. If that does not work, get activated charcoal (like for an aquarium) and make little bean bags of it, and tuck down into the chair. Look for an upholstery cleaner specifically designed for tough odors. I know that that can be really gross to have in your house.Lots of luck. Be sure to post whatever you find most effective. Oh, you could sponge it down with vinegar.

I had this same problem in the same situation. I used Febreze Allergen Reducer and sprayed it all over the recliner, and then let it dry. Also, if you put something like a Renuzit Super Odor killer 'tree' in the corner of the seat, down into the sides, you won't smell the smoke and in time you can take it out again and the recliner will retain the good smell.

I am going to agree with the other Febreeze recommendations. I use it a lot on a variety of things and it really works well. One of my favorite uses for it is spraying the vacuum cleaner bag. Mine start to smell before they are full because of all the dog hair I pick up.

Do you by chance own a carpet shampooer with attachments? If so, go to the store and buy yourself some Arm and Hammmer Pure Essentails liquid laundry soap and add that to your shampooer, then clean the recliner with that. Afterwards, just run straight water through the shampooer and do it again. Or rent a shampooer with the attachments. I have had this problem myself and have done this many times. I have tried with fabreeze and it doesn't always work. But with this specific laudry detergent, it really works, great on clothes too. Let me put it this way. Our water always tastes like dirt, and smells like mud. Before I started using Arm and Hammer Pure Essentials, all my clothes smelled like mud. I tried everything including dryer sheets. Nothing helped until I started using the Pure Essentials.
